►►picking up all of the pieces | So, after she’d picked up the rather interesting chunk of “nature” that was now tucked underneath her arms, Rachel then continued on her rather slow trek through the area. Noting that the weird chunk she had tucked under her left warm was of the same shade as her eye color, she couldn’t help but think—was this thing she was holding alive at some point? It didn’t matter—because for now, she was still as lost as ever in this weird, desolate, abandoned area. “Rach, you’re such a stupid idiot. Next time, bring some emergency rations…” she chastised herself, shaking her head as she realized a few seconds later that she’d spoken the words out loud. This is a sign you’re about to fall off the deep end, talking to yourself… she thought as she continued to trudge her way forward through the heat haze; squinting in the distance and making sure she didn’t accidentally knock into anything and spilled all of her packed luggage onto the dirt again. She’d already had several rather interesting “Accidents” earlier; first ramming into the weird rock, then the bone—now what else would she find out here? After deciding that staying silent wouldn’t do her any good, she decided to let out one of her two companions—and watching as the flash of red light revealed her avian caretaker, nicknamed Sky (her troupe mates had chastised her for the rather unimaginative name, but since he didn’t want to answer anything else, the name had stuck). “Ruff? Rufflet?” the Flying-type squawked as he looked around and saw that he wasn’t inside the theater—or anywhere in the Unova region entirely. “Hey,” she began, crouching down in order to give the Rufflet’s prominent feather a reassuring pat, “…sorry I called out on such short notice. But I’m going crazy here. Can you stay with me and keep me company?” she asked the avian, to which he gave an affectionate flap of his wings and a nod. Rachel knew that the Rufflet was slightly heavier than most of the other birds that she’d seen—hell, her other best friend always walked around with a Pidove on her shoulders—and knew that from experience back then, when Sky had tried to ride on her shoulder, he just ended up slipping to the ground. The two then continued on their trek through the rather interesting landscape, the human keeping her eye out for anything; the Rufflet, trying to get himself airborne—with little success.continuation from earlier |

►►picking up all of the pieces | While the Rufflet was attempting to fly—with little success—the strange “duo” then continued their hike across the desolate stretch of land. Wondering if her eyes were starting to play tricks with her again, Rachel then came to a stop, before squatting down into the shade that her tower of luggage had offered and rubbing her eyes. The Flying-type then noticed that his “charge” hadn’t followed him, so he turned around and began to squawk quite loudly. “Shhh, Sky. I just need a break… it’s so hot, I don’t know if I can keep going…” she said, shushing the Rufflet with another reassuring feather tickle. As the avian continued to squawk happily under her reassurance of affection, she was still trying to gather her sense of direction—which was proving to be pretty hopeless at the current time. “I hate this heat. Why didn’t Maman warn me about this before I came out here…” she muttered to herself, getting up after around five minutes’ in the shade in order to continue walking through the place. As the Rufflet had decided to walk ahead of Rachel—if but to scout around and to make sure that they weren’t going to be snuck up on—it then saw something glimmering in the dirt, not too far away from where he was. Overcome by curiosity, the avian then approached it…before quickly snatching it up in his beak and then scurrying as fast as his short legs could carry him over to the approaching Rachel. “Hmm? Sky, what are you so hyped about…?” she began, looking down and watching as the Rufflet began hopping up and down quite excitedly, before waiting for her to hold out her hand. Wondering if there was something stuck in his beak, she then did what he was exactly waiting for her to do—extend her hand out to him. At that gesture, the Rufflet then spat out what it was holding in its beak, and she watched as a spit-soaked, rainbow-colored rock rolled into her palm, glimmering in the light of the sun.“This place sure is weird…first the chunk of amber, now this? Well…can’t say that a rainbow-colored stone looks pretty… good job, Sky. Keep an eye out if you see anything as interesting as this, okay?” she said with a chirp in her own voice, grinning as she shifted the wet rainbow-colored rock into her other hand, before wiping it down the hemline of her shirt and slipping it into the pocket of her jeans.tl;dr claiming that thing |
