A sweet little 7 year old Angel Dalton couldn't help but take big deep breaths as she absorbed the mountain air in her small lungs. The thin cold air demanded this action, but it wasn't her only reason for doing it. "It feels clean! Real clean!" she giggled at her father, smiling up at him.
Her father was Ivan, a kind older gentleman with gray hair not simply given to him by age. He looked well off and fancy, a bit of a sore thumb in this land of simplicity.. although it was quickly becoming something different with each passing year. Ivan bent down and smiled, messing up her hair as he petted the top of her head. "Sure does. It's because it's so fresh. This is where air is born." he teased slightly, watching her eyes shoot up with wonder and excitement as she thought of air being born!
Although he wished this could just be a vacation full of nothing but bonding time, he knew like most days that work had to happen to keep his family afloat. He could see that she was about to burst with a bunch of questions about air, questions he would be happy to answer.. later on. "I have to go talk to someone about work stuff now princess." he said. Angel's expression immediately changed to disappointed. "How come daddy! You ALWAYS gotta work. I know you said you were gunna but can't you just not?" Ivan could only think of one thing being given such a sight.. so unfair! The most unfair thing in the universe! She wasn't allowed to do this to his heart!
He chuckled and patted her back after his dramatic silly thoughts, wanting to help her understand. "My friend here needs my help though!" he said, simplifying the situation although it was true that the man he was meeting was a longtime friend. "When your friend asks you for help, you do whatever you can. Right?"
Angel's face lit up again. Yeah! You had do to that kind of thing for friends! "Sounds real important!" her words brought relief to him. She was a terror when she felt she was being robbed of something, but he was glad to see she understood. He had to play the friend card.. which gave him a pang of guilt. He knew his child was currently lacking in playmates her own age. He wondered if there was any around this area.. or somewhat close at least. "It should be okay to play here.." he said to her, knowing this place a bit by reputation thanks to his friend who had spent a lot of time here. Ivan believed that this was probably one of the safer places in the world for her to be.. at least right now. Plus he knew she would just get bored sitting around in his house with nothing to do and.. he hoped she would meet a friend to have fun with.
Pulling himself away from all his thoughts lest they steal his mind for good, he took her hand and handed her a little gadget. A cute little one-way phone that he could call and would feed him her location. Simplistic emergency phone that were popular with parents these days with a GPS.. a bit pricey but it was worth it. It fit a lot with his parenting style.. which might be suprisingly relaxed to most people. He figured this would be good practice for her too, it would only be a few years until he was sure she would want to go about her own journey. "I'll come fetch you once I'm done, okay? You have fun. Stay close to houses and press the button if anything bad happens, okay? Anything at all! Me and Miss Scales will come rushing over."
Angel looked at it. Such power! To call her daddy at the press of a button! Such power made her forget the fact that he was helping a friend for a moment.. her finger already hovering over the button as if to test how it would feel. She gave herself away though, and Ivan quickly caught her intention. Such a sillyhead.
He laughed messed up her short brown hair even further. "None one of that now.. or hot cocoa later!" he said giving a mischievous smile, knowing how excited she was for it. Her finger immediately removed from the vicinity. "No press! I didn't press!" she said, worried about the loss of delicious hot cocoa. He had to leave though.. time was pressing. So he gave his daughter a last goodbye kiss and was on his way.
He left her sight, giving her freedom to go wherever she pleased. She felt jittery and excited, and quickly dug into the pockets of her thick coat, trying to find the Poke Ball within. She finally found it, pulling it out. It was so large to her small fingers, and she fumbled in the cold with the switch that would her her friend out to play.
Her Vullaby made a happy sqwuak for a moment, the moment where it only really knew that it was being free of it's ball. This moment of excitement was unfortunately short lived however, as the cold hit her quick and sent and shivers down her feathers. "Wonder Bird! Let's race in the snow!" she exclaimed. She was unaware of how uncomfortable Wonder Bird was, not really putting it together that she might have a bit more trouble dealing with it then her. I mean.. in her mind they were about as cold as she was right?
Wonder Bird however was always up for a race, and the adrenaline would keep her warm enough. Plus.. she got a lot to eat. She was always searching for new and fun things to gobble up when she wasn't racing. Eating and racing were Wonder Bird's best activities. The games Angel and her Pokemon played were suitable though, Angel Dalton without even knowing simulating the games it would play with others of it's kind. Chasing around each other to get better at chasing around other Pokemon. In fact in a very real way.. Vullaby did see the little girl as one of her kind.
Surprisingly, Vullaby seemed to be managing the weather and terrain a bit better and got ahead. Angel hadn't really made a specific destination for the race.. so off Vullably went with Angel trailing behind.. trying her hardest not to slip and fall.

out there past men's knowing
As usual, Unnur was thinking about food. She was specifically thinking about lunch, for it was already eleven in the morning. Soon it would be lunchtime, but little Unnur had yet to get home to help her mama! Still, the heavily-clothed blue-haired girl walked without hurrying, seeing as she was carrying the groceries, and knew that hurrying could very well make her fall and send all that food to waste.
"I think we're having spaghetti today," she commented. Unnur's voice sounded like no more than a whisper, soft and delicate as it was, but it was loud enough for the Shellder hopping by her side to hear. Upon hearing this bit of information regarding their meal, Nori hopped even higher. She loved spaghetti, mainly because there were always pastries after the spaghetti on spaghetti days.
Her trainer was well aware of this, of course, even if she didn't share her companion's love for sweets, though she didn't manage to witness the Shellder's excitement: a rather thick tree rose ahead, forcing the girl to go left and her Pokémon to go right in order to walk around it. Unnur could hear some animated shouts nearby, but paid them little notice. After all, she just wanted to get home to mama already.
She couldn't have possibly predicted what was about to happen, distracted as she was thinking about food.
It was a race time! No time to slow down! Wonder Bird continued to create distance between Angel the might as well be a Vullaby girl. Angel had tripped and fallen on her butt, and was now attending to the removal of cold snow. This allowed Vullaby to even more get ahead... and then it spotted something.
A strange thing. It seemed sort of strange. She wanted a piece of it. There was a good chance it was food. Wonder Bird's perspective was limited and she was very young, but what she saw was basically a walking food case. That's what it was right? It seemed really easy to chase.. really easy to knock over and explore.
Although the first instinct was to just give a powerful intimidating squawk and rush forward, Wonder Bird also noticed something else. There was another person about. Possibly also stalking the prey.. or perhaps a bodyguard. She never shied away from a challenge but thought she could try to do this with a bit more subtly. With an attack that was perfectly aimed to hit the Shellder without alerting the trainer. So Vullaby used a Gust attack, trying to angle it in a way that would blow the Shellder away from it's bodyguard. Immediately after that it would rush after the Pokemon and try to create distance between them.
Angel however had practically already lost Wonder Bird, and was in a bit of a daze. "Diaper butt?" she called out.. but no response. She skimmed the area, holding her hands above her head to increase her vision. It totally worked... but she didn't find Wonder Bird. Instead another girl! She could see her in the distance but she was already walking away. So she tried to cry out, "Wait up!" to catch her attention. Either way she would continue to scramble her way forward.. trying her very best to avoid falling on her butt again.

out there past men's knowing
A gust of wind surprised little Unnur out of her very, very important musings on food and the origins of meat quality terms. "Oh," she breathed out. Her two long pigtails rose playfully into the air, and she immediately reached for one of them in an attempt to keep her hair at bay, while simultaneously safeguarding the groceries from any and all danger. Letting them fall to the floor would just not do, no matter the situation.
In such a state of astonishment and quickened heart rate, it took the blue-haired child several seconds to find out that Nori, her beloved Shellder, was being ambushed—by some ruthless, fat bird, no less!
Now, Unnur had never seen any Pokémon quite like the one she was glancing at, but she was growing less and less fond of it by the second. How dare it knock Nori down just as she was excitedly jumping up and down? So rude. Unnur was certain that her mama would not approve of such behaviour, and so brought it upon herself to punish this rude little ball of feather and fur of an outlaw as soon as possible, before resuming her notable role of bringing the groceries home.
The Shellder, out of sheer surprise rather than following her trainer's train of thought, opted to do the same. She may have had no way of avoiding her opponent's first attack, but that didn't mean she couldn't protect herself from further damage by closing her two valves really tight and landing smoothly on a nearby batch of snow.
"Counterattack! Cut it open, now."
Nori didn't need to be told twice. The Shellder was already readying an attack, anyway; an attack that would fit her trainer's purposes. Taking special notice of the direction the wind was taking, Nori hopped once again into the air, being tossed backwards a little before she turned around, escaped the currents of wind that the brown bird had created, and boomeranged right back at it.
As the Shellder approached her assailant, she also began to release a series of peculiar sound waves that, under normal circumstances, would confuse those whose ears they reached—
"Wait up!"
A soft cry in the background. Heaving breaths closing in on her and the two battling Pokémon. Unnur turned her head just in time to see a small brunette girl running their way. "What do you think you're doing?" she asked the approaching figure. A pair of expectant eyes waited for a response.
68%
Hit by Gust (-32%). Used Razor Shell and, taking advantage of the proximity, Supersonic.
"Oh! I'm playing! Wonder Bird and me were racing! I think she wants to race with.."
A pause as suddenly she looked around the area and caught a glimpse of Wonder Bird being attacked. The fact that this shell could bite back at all was a shock to Wonder Bird. Enough of one that it mostly stood surprised as it took the full force of both of Shellder's attacks. It most certainly had learned that this Pokemon was no pushover.
"Oh.." she said, turning back to the totally not that much older girl in front of her with a awkward look on her face. "I think Wonder Bird just wanted to play, I'm sorry she did uncool stuff. Does that mean we can't play?" There was a look of guilt on Angel Dalton's face as she said her simplistic little question. She had seen the girl and immediately tagged her as a playmate. She had gotten excited in a moment.. another kid. She wanted to play with her in this moment more then practically anything in the whole wide world.
However she now was worried that this girl was mad at her, staring at her with pleading eyes. She was probably super angry about her Pokemon being knocked around, and would probably not play with her and even tell her mom on Angel.. which would mean that her mom would tell her dad.. no!
"Please don't tell my daddy, he'll take away my hot cocoa!" she said, looking nervous about that too. This could possibly have been the worst thing ever! She practically wanted to cry! Not being able to play with a kid her age and no hot cocoa! Life couldn't possibly get worse!

out there past men's knowing
"Play?" she repeated. Unnur was skeptical at first. While she was perfectly acquaintanced with the idea of battling as playing—it was one of her only means of entertainment out here in the snowy wilds—, she had never before had human playmates, and was unsure of whether this fragile little girl could handle playing with her. She did look like a big klutz, too. Unnur stole another glance at her.
Might as well give her the benefit of the doubt, though. It couldn't be that bad. Most likely. After all, who knew when she'd get another chance like this?
"We can play," Unnur said at last, and it was only then that she noticed the brunette's growingly bleary eyes. She looked like she was about to cry. What a weird girl. Then again, didn't most kids her age usually cry for every little thing? Yes, Unnur was fairly certain they did, even if she hadn't dealt with any before. Nori, by now aware of the new presence and certain that the bird would try no more tricks on her, returned to her young trainer. "Do you want to play now?"
"Play!" she giggled, cheering up quick. She didn't know where she wanted to start! She always thought about how much she wanted to play with other kids, but when it happened she always froze up!
Then she thought of it! She already wanted to do it, so now seemed like the best chance. "I wanna do snow angels! Do you know how?" she said. It was one of the things she had made a solemn promise to herself to try once she got up here. This was her first trip to such a snowy place. Seeing all this snow in one place was such a wondrous thing, and there was so many snow things she wanted to do.
She kept staring at her playmate, almost thinking she was practically too good to be true. She couldn't believe she ran into another kid so fast! "Your hair is real pretty! It's like my dollies! My mom makes dresses like dollies wear, I bet you would look real good in them!" she said, thinking this was true. They were both dressed for the weather though, which was one of the lesser fun things about snow.. having to bundle up.

out there past men's knowing
The brunette cheered up so quickly that Unnur had to wonder whether she just really wanted to play, or was a complete psycopath. Dangerous, but interesting. Was this another trait characteristic of kids her age? She certainly seemed enthusiastic about battling, even if she hadn't struck Unnur as such at first glance. At any rate, she would not have much time to indulge in her musings, for the brunette would soon suggest an idea.
Unnur blinked. "Snow angels?" she asked. Was that a new battle style she hadn't heard of? Seeing as Unnur had lived sheltered in her mama's pretty little cottage up the hill, the possibilities were high. How exciting! Perhaps her days playing the same thing over and over would become just a tad more fun, having a new array of games to play. "I don't know how to do snow angels. You've gotta teach me," came her voice, demanding.
She then lowered her head just so her lips and rosy cheeks were hidden behind the warmth of her equally rosy scarf. Her hair was being complimented, likened to a doll's. She repressed a hiss. Unnur could count the multiple times she had been, one way or another, compared to a porcelain doll, but couldn't remember reacting positively even once. When the other child brought up the topic of her mother, though, Unnur's interest was instantly piqued.
"Your mama does?" Unnur seemed genuinely surprised at this revelation. "What other things does she do? What's your mama like?"
She didn't know how to snow angel, even when she lived here? It almost didn't make sense to the young girl, it pretty much didn't at all! Still, she wasn't one to think a kid was a liar, she was just really really surprised!
However sometimes some questions were more important to answer first then others. In this case, the second question that she had asked seemed more important. Especially since the first one was barely even a question. It was more of a demand, a demand that Angel Dalton would be very happy to comply to but only after they stopped talking about mommy's.
"Yeah.. my.. mama." It wasn't actually a word she had used anymore, shifting into the familiar mommy since she was about 4 years old and it sticking. Such a long time! Still, there was something familiar about mama, but she was mostly mirroring this really pretty girl she was seeing. ".. she likes to make clothes! She makes doll clothes too! She said she wanted to make clothes when she was my age too! What's your.. mama like? Is she nice! Mine is nice but cries a lot!" she said, and although that might sound sad it was really that her mommy was just a sensitive woman who got emotional a lot. In fact her mommy's life really couldn't be better in her opinion.

out there past men's knowing
There was so much excitement emanating from the small body of this brunette girl that Unnur couldn't help but tilt her head and stare back in intrigue. She seemed to be savouring the word 'mama,' which the blue-haired girl took as further proof of her fondness for her own mother.
Unnur nodded, as if understanding everything there was to know about mothers and crybabies and human nature. "I know what you mean," she offered. "My mama used to cry a lot, too, back when..."
Suddenly, she stopped. It wasn't so much a sudden, abrupt stop, no—it was more like a snowflake falling down and coming to a stop on top of someone's pink nose. A slow, inevitable transition, much like a stream that slowly becomes a small pond. Why? Unnur realised she had made a terrible mistake.
In the face of novelty, Unnur had let her defences down.
"What about your father?" Unnur's sharp voice returned, remembering the brunette's mention of her father when they had first met. She hoped against hope that the younger girl would be as excited about this slight change of topic so as not to notice her discomfort. Unnur wasn't against the chance of learning more information to use as blackmail, if needed, either. "What is he like?"
And, as last resort, "Don't forget you must teach me how to play that snow angels game you mentioned."
Angel Dalton hadn't noticed the moment that Unnur had had. What she had was her words, and words from another girl close to her age were words to be savored. "Mommies will always love us, no matter what tho'!" she said, smiling. It wasn't that she had noticed that there was a change in Unnur. It was simply that whenever she saw her mother crying, especially when it was about Angel herself.. her mother and father would always make sure she knew that. That no matter what, she was loved. It was just her way.
"Daddy? Daddy is always working instead of playing with me! He's working right now!" she said, sounding a bit upset at the words but still looking too excited about talking with Unnur to let it get her down.
This was nothing that her daddy could change, and he would if he could. Not only that, but ee really did spend lots of time with her whenever he had the free time and was a superdad on the weekends. In this regard, Angel was just a bit spoiled because of that. She loved spending time with her daddy on the weekends, but it made the times he wasn't around feel even more noticeable.
Then the last bit. "Snow Angel's! You want me to show you right now? I'll show you!" this was a truly honest joy in her face, she looked just extremely happy to say every single word she was. She was so excited to have a friend to play with! A friend! This girl was her friend!

out there past men's knowing
Unnur let a subtle smile wash over her pale skin and rosy cheeks. "Yes," she acknowledged softly. She didn't finish her earlier statement, nor did she mention why it was that her mother cried. She just let the topic go, and move on to the next. Just as she wanted.
Having never met her father, not even at a young—or younger, to be more precise—age, Unnur was not all that knowledgeable on matters regarding the father's parental role in a family. Lief, Unnur's mother, always took special care not to mention him, and even when she did as nothing more than a fleeting memory, vague and old enough for little Unnur to never suspect a thing, and so she was clueless as to what to say in response. Offer her sympathy? Didn't even cross her young mind.
Which is not to say she thought nothing of the brunette's words, of course. She did. She was confused, in fact. Why was she so worried of what her father thought, if he never was around to begin with?
Thankfully, Unnur wouldn't have to worry long about what to say next. The other girl seemed more than happy to oblige to her request.
"Yes," she repeated, though this time not so subtly, and not in acknowledgement. This time, it was in agreement. She was enthusiastic about learning about this new game of the brunette's. As enthusiastic as her usual facial expression—a blank face, now adorned with a smile hardly visible to the naked eye—allowed, at least.
Unnur felt a small rush of adrenaline run through her veins as she turned her head to her left to watch Nori the Shellder hop a little closer. "Excited?" the blue-haired girl asked her purple companion, waiting for the brunette to elaborate on rules.
Angel Dalton hadn't noticed the moment that Unnur had had. What she had was her words, and words from another girl close to her age were words to be savored.
If there was one thing that Angel Dalton, age 7 could know by now it was that this new girl was oh so very quiet. As quiet as a mouse, a really cute one!
She allowed herself a moment to think about what this could mean. Was she upset? No.. she must be shy then! She didn't waste too much time worrying about it. Shy kids were kids that Angel liked as much as kids who weren't shy. There wasn't anything wrong with being shy at all! She hoped she could help her not feel so shy though, and have fun!
The best way to have fun was to just get going, and so Angel Dalton age 7 plopped her caboose in the snow. "You have to get down on the snow and then.." stopping only to giggle she leaned back in the snow. Her hands were quickly put in a position, stretched outwards and her legs as well. "Then you gotta get like this and.. and then!" she said, really excited about the next part and it showed. She moved her hands and feet vaguely in the way she was supposed to. "Once you are done you gotta get up real careful and look down and you made and angel!!" she said. The idea of angels was a little less pronounced in the Pokemon world, but there was still enough imagery associated with it that people got it. Angel mostly knew them from a TV show she really liked. A girl called Togetic girl looked just like a classic angel!
All the while she was doing this, her eyes were so focused on her new friend. As if worried she might spirit away, be a figment of a overactive imagination.. or suddenly be gone for some other mysterious reason. She wanted to burn the image of this moment in her head forever and ever.

out there past men's knowing
Unnur stared for a good while even after the brunette was done with her explanation. She looked from the seven-year-old's emerald eyes to the curious shape she had left on the snow, unable to grasp what she was being asked to do, and back. "Is that all?" Unnur asked, stranged. What kind of game was this? It involved no combat, no moves, no Pokémon. It, Unnur was fairly certain, could barely be considered a game at all.
"If this is a joke, it's not funny," she said, frown in place. Unnur did not like this kind of silly prank. They made no sense whatsoever, were not funny and instead were a waste of time. Unnur did not like wasting time when she could be spending that time with mama and— Oh! Mama! Unnur had completely forgotten about her errand! See! This was exactly why she did not like silly pranks! And the brunette should feel very ashamed of herself for keeping Unnur from rushing back home!
On the other hand, the kid did not seem like she would purposefully play such pranks. On anyone, really. Did not seem like she could. At this thought, Unnur would make her second grave mistake: she would look at the younger girl's angelic smile. She looked so happy that it was hard to believe that she was acting. Then again, appearances may be misleading.
Unnur's dilemma was not product of her thinking that all children out there were full of good itentions and unable to trick and deceive, but rather because she did not think this particular one—careless and naive and everything in-between—was smart enough not to be.
Sighing, she tried again. "Your game is not fun. Let's try one of mine instead. Let's battle."
Angel was honestly confused, but she wasn't the type of child at this stage who was going to let this sort of thing sink in too deeply. If her friend was bored, of course they could do something else. Part of her being fine with the sudden change in what they would do was just honestly that it sounded like a blast.
Seriously, she had wanted a Pokemon Battle since forever! She didn't need to be asked twice! So she threw herself back upwards, for a moment taking a second to glance down at the angel she had made. She really liked it.. and did for a moment wonder why this girl wouldn't try it. She guessed maybe it was less fun for someone who lived in the snow a bunch.
"Okay! Let's battle! I'm going to use Wonder Bird okay!" she said, smiling up at her older friend who Angel was more then happy to allow to take the lead.
