It was nice to visit Shui every once in a while. It was so close to Bosky, it really wasn't all that much of a chore. Just take off a day or maybe two and spend the day wandering around the city. It was always pleasant, always reminded him of the years he had spent here. Sometimes, when the place wasn't packed or busy, he would even visit the facility he had stayed at for so long. See how his tutors and guardians had been, see if any budding new Psychics were with them. It was a time to relax and ponder about things, to eat good food and visit places that made his nostalgic.
One such place was at a nice little tea shop. It was a small place, near the edge of town. The tea was okay, food was only decent at best, but what you went for was the view. It was an open area, where guests would sit in the back and could observe nature while sipping on their drink. You could even catch pokemon here, if you thought you could do it without breaking anything or disturbing other customers. Mostly, Novel just liked to watch. The last time he had been here, just a few months ago, he had seen a muddy brown deerling wander up and nibble on a few of the well cared for plants. It was so small, had been so sweet. He really hoped to see something like that again.
Patting his pocket down, Novel thought about which of his Pokemon he should have join him. Sal was the obvious choice... but she got to do everything, it wasn't fair, really. Max was out- Last time he had been allowed out in public, he had ran away and then scratched some poor girl on the hand. Harold would be a fish out of water, so that just left Nancy. Tapping her Pokeball, he called out the Meditite. She yawned and shook herself off some, looking around. She didn't like these types of places much, but it was better than being in that stuffy ball. Crossing her legs, she sat down next to Novel and sighed, bored.

No sooner than Nancy had given up on entertainment, she got her wish. A shadow moved from one of the corners of the garden, which slowly became clearer as a pokemon. Well, she assumed it was a pokemon. It looked more like some weird floating do-dad, and usually those were pokemon. She glanced up at Novel, who was looking at the weird metal thing as well. He glanced over at her and raised a brow, then shrugged and jerked his head towards it. Well, it must have been safe. For now anyway. If her Trainer said it was in an okay mood, it was just up to her to keep it there.
Hopping up, Nancy strode over to the sword and puffed up her chest. "Medi!" She barked, hands on hips and trying to look tough. For something so small and round, it didn't have the desired effect. The sword, a Honedge, turned from inspecting a forgotten teacup and stared dimly at Nancy. It blinked its one eye, then slowly lifted up the blue, hand-like sash and gently patted her on the head. Turning, it crept over to another table and picked up a small fork that had been forgotten underneath. A flash of indignant disbelief flared in Nancy's chest, prompting her to approach the Ghost Type once again.
"Ah, I see you've met Sitter." A kindly middle aged woman approached Novel, coming out from the building behind him. She poured him a new cup of piping tea with steady fingers, a small smile playing on her lips. As she straightened back up, she continued. "Poor dear comes here a few times a week. It never bothers anyone, so we leave it be. Likes the cutlery for some reason." She sighed, but a quick feelings check from Novel made it apparent she was hiding a bit of impishness under that kind facade. "It would be so nice if someone could find it a home... someone strong who we knew could take care of it... a Gym Leader perhaps." Rolling his eyes, Novel snorted, but sported a small grin. She was forward, which was sort of nice. Plus he was in a good mood.
"I'll see what I can do. I want to see how it reacts to Nancy." Looking back over at his Pokemon, he watched the pair carefully. Nancy was a good fighter and a sweet girl at heart, but she was spoiled and hard to get along with. If this pokemon could go for more then ten minutes of dealing with her without attacking, then he would try and catch it. No sooner, though. He probably wouldn't keep the Ghost Type for himself, but this was a good chance to see if it could be trusted with another Trainer; someone less competent than himself. To his surprise, it seemed like they were getting along great.
Nancy was sitting under a low hanging bush, legs crossed and digging in the dirt. Chattering away calmly, the Honedge was rapt with... whatever she was saying. Novel might have known his pokemon well, but that didn't mean he could understand what they were saying. That would just be silly. Standing up, he strolled over slowly and peeked down at her. The Honedge glanced up at him and seemed tense, but did no more than float a couple inches away. "What are you two doing?" Cooing softly, he tried to seem the least threatening as possible. He didn't want the poor thing to run off.
"Tite! Meditite!" Whatever it was, Nancy was excited. Her hands were filthy, and a little hole had been dug in front of her. She continued to chatter away, seeming to be talking more to the Honedge than him. She could tell from the way she was moving and kept pointing that she was talking about him. He wondered what she was saying. He hoped it was good things. Whatever it was must have been working, because the sword pokemon seemed to be calming down some. It slowly got closer, then peered down into the hole.
"Is there something inside?" Pressing his fingers against the dirt in the hole, Novel felt around the best he could. He didn't feel anything at first, but after some worming around something sharp poked his finger. He flinched away, startled, but slowly slid his fingers back down and wrapped around the offending object. It took a lot of tugging, but finally whatever it was came loose. Clumps of soft earth fell as he dusted whatever it was off, slowly revealing it to be a fork. It was different from others he had seen, with an intricate design carved into the handle. It looked like it might have been real silver, even if it had seen abuse. Thus thing had to have been..... well, old; Novel wasn't an antiquer so he couldn't really guess. The Honedge let out a, what he assumed to be, happy noise and reached for the fork with it's sash. Novel handed it over without conflict.
"You've been looking for that for a long time, huh? Important to you?" Smiling, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a spare Pokeball. It was always good to have a few spare on you just for cases like this. "Now that you have it, no need to hang around here anymore, right?" Priming the ball to the 'ready' position, he set it down in front of himself and leaned back. "It would get lonely here all by yourself. Why not come with me? I can find you someone to take care of you; make you happy."
Novel really hoped that the Honedge would take the bait. It seemed like a gentle pokemon after all, and wandering around in the city was no good for it. The people here had been kind, but others might not be. Now that it had what it was after, it would be prone to leaving the safety of the teashop too. He knew that he could help it be safe and loved. It just had to touch the ball. That was it.

Novel let out a small sigh of relief when the Honedge touched the ball. It was reluctantly, slow, staring at him like it was unsure of his intentions. Still, it had, and the ball didn't shake once as it was pulled inside. Picking up his new Pokemon, he put the ball away and sat back down at his seat. He sighed, then did his best to wipe and wash off his hands. He was here to eat, and he didn't want to be dirty if he was going to do anything. He saw that his tea had been topped off and was steaming, and a large slice of cake had been placed on his table. Seems like the staff were grateful to him. He felt a surge of pride in himself. It was always nice to do something and then be rewarded for it.
Nancy came and sat next to him, content with her dirt. She stretched wide and laid back. Well, not that that was over, looks like she was going into snooze city again! Maybe if she was lucky, something else would come around. Then she could go and play or fight or whatever she wanted to do. This shop place was nice, but her Trainer was so boring when he was here! All he did was sit around and look at stuff. It was lame. At least there were usually other people with Pokemon to go and bother, but since no one else was here right now, it left a lot to be expected.
Slicing the cake into two halves, Novel slid one piece of it over towards Nancy. Even if it was gross, he knew she would probably just eat the cake with her dirty fingers. He felt a little bad that she was so unhappy here, but sitting and meditating on things would be good for her. She was a Meditite after all, and weren't they supposed to meditate a lot? Novel wasn't really sure that he had ever seen her do it willingly. Either way, all he could do for now as ponder on things and enjoy his cake. Maybe something else would even wander by.

at most I'm sleeping all these demons away
It wasn't very long after Novel and Nancy had sat down that another word happened upon the scene. It seemed to be searching for something, but didn't have the same demeanor as the first one did. It seemed more set in purpose, maybe even angrier. It arrived at the hole they had dug for the other one and circled it a bit. Then, it let out a loud cry that sounded like anguish and fury. It whirled around, searching, and when it locked eyes with Novel and Nancy it charged forward. Its clear intent was to attack.
"Oh hell. Nancy, can you take care of this? We don't want it wrecking the Tea Shop." Pulling herself up, Nancy nodded a short reply and stepped forward. She was unflinching and unafraid of the Honedge. In fact, she would be kicking its ethereal ass pretty soon! Getting into a battle stance, she huffed and got ready for whatever it could throw at her. As they expected the first thing it did was take the sheath off of itself and slash at Nancy, which the lithe Meditite expertly avoided. She was well trained, after all. While this might not be an easy fight, at least she knew what to do and her head wasn't muddied with anger. Whatever this thing was angry about, that is.
"We'll go basic with this, Nancy. No Gym talk. Meditate, then use Fire Punch, okay?" Novel remained seated. He trusted Nancy to this battle and knew she didn't need him standing over her like some mother hen. Nancy nodded at the orders. Bringing her arms up, she closed her eyes and let a blue glow engulf her. She started to float, and crossed her legs when she did. The movements relaxed her body and made it so she could hit a little harder for a little bit, as well as strengthening her mind. She snapped out of it a moment later and used the momentum from her drop to get closer to the Honedge. Making a fist, she snarled and pulled back. Her fist burst into flame, and with a loud crack the Honedge was struck. Where it was hit made the metal of it's body glow red for a moment before it faded away.
The Honedge seemed stunned, obviously not anticipating them to fight back, let alone actually be able to hurt it. That attack had hurt, a lot. It reeled back, shaking itself lightly. It sort of wanted to run with its metaphorical tail between its legs, but a sense of pride just wouldn't let it. It might have been a fruitless effort, but the Honedge tempered its body to strengthen its defense, then rubbed its blade on a decorative rock that it happened to be close, to which sharpened itself for a coming onslaught. Sadly, the poor thing didn't get the chance.
"That was good, Nancy. Use Fire Punch again. That seemed to be very effective." Snorting, Nancy used the pause in action from her opponent to draw closer quickly. She was pretty nimble, all things considered. Pulling back her fist again, the flames came back and she cracked it in the place she had before. The sound was different, it hurt her hand more than before and she felt like it didn't so as much. Even so, it was still enough to take the Honedge down. It wavered for a moment, then the single, eerie eye on the hilt closed and it fell to the ground with a loud 'thunk'. Nancy straightened up, looking back at Novel.
"Good girl. Come and have a nice rest." Standing up, Novel reached into his pocket and pulled out another one of his precious few pokeballs. It would be irresponsible to leave a Pokemon so willing to attack others just out in the open like this. Plus, he felt bad just leaving it to lay there. It wouldn't be very kind of a person in his position, even if he didn't particularly want a second Honedge to add to his collection. Quickly, he tosses a pokeball at it and watched it be sucked up. Now all he could do is wait and see if it captured or not.

Novel made a satisfied sound when he heard the 'click' of the ball. A fainted pokemon was always easier to catch, and that one had been out cold. He was glad that it wouldn't be a nuisance anymore. Sadly, he felt like he might have worn out his welcome at the little Tea Shop. Its not the ladies who worked there seemed to mind, but it was time he got going anyway. It had been an eventful evening, and he wanted to get back to his hotel so he could get ready to go home in the morning. He quickly payed for his drink and left, Nancy hot on his heels.
It was pretty quiet out in this part of the city. Closer to nature, yet still having a lot of the traditional things the rest of the city did. It seemed there weren't many people out right now, but occasionally he could hear laughter coming from a house or from another street he couldn't see. It was peaceful, and left a wistful smile on his face. How often had be walked this same path as a kid? It had to have been hundreds, just him and Sal plodding along to get a nice cup of Tea or see what they could find.
Nostalgic, Novel didn't pay attention to the bushes or how they were shaking nearby, seemingly following them. There was something there, something ready to jump out and trick this silly human. It, whatever it was, would take anything that it could sneak off with. Now it just needed an opportunity...

this spell you cast on me- its like magic
To say that Novel was startled would be an understatement. When a ball of fur was suddenly in front of him, eyes gleaming, the man couldn't help but let out a loud yelp and skip a few steps back. It was bad enough that he almost fell over, and when he realized it was just a Meowth in front of him he felt embarrassed that he hadn't been paying attention. It didn't seem to mean any harm, since it was just sitting there. Even when Nancy jumped in front of Novel to try and defend her startled Trainer, it didn't raise one whisker against either of them. It looked pretty young, just a kitten. A pokemon like this was cute, but not really his type... plus he had already captured two other pokemon that night that he would have to find owners for. A third just didn't seem worth it. Still... the way it was looking up at him, eyes wide and innocent, and it was purring... it tugged his heart. It was scrawny too, which meant it wasn't eating enough. Still, he couldn't just suddenly snatch up a Pokemon he didn't know. Even if it was thin, it could very well belong to someone here. That would make him a thief.
"Come on... shoo." Lifting his hands up, Novel made a small 'go away' motion with his hands. The Meowth just tilted its head, then made a soft peeping 'mew?' up at him. It melted Novel's heart some more, but he was resolved to do what he had intended. Carefully, he sidestepped and went around the Meowth. If he just walked away, then it would get the picture and leave him alone. That much he was sure. That is, until Nancy, who was peeking back curiously at the Normal Type, tugged Novel lightly on the shirt to get his attention. When he turned his head to where Nancy was pointing, he saw that the strange cat pokemon was following them. Sighing, Novel stopped again and turned around. Almost obediently, the Meowth sat down again and stared up at him. "Ah... what do you want?" He knew the Meowth couldn't answer, at least not in human speech, but he felt it needed to be asked.
The Meowth did answer, though. It walked over to Novel and gently rubbed its side against his leg, twining itself around in circles between his feet. It was purring louder now, which made Novel make a little groan of frustration under his breath. Nancy covered her mouth with her hand to try and hide the wide smile she had. One of the funniest things in the world to her was when Novel was frustrated over something. She didn't know what this Meowth really wanted, but watching Novel try and resist liking the cute kitty was hilarious.
"Meditite." Reaching down, Nancy started to pet the Meowth gently on the back. When it just tried to rub against her hand instead of attack her, she gently picked up the ragged thing and held it in her arms. It curled up, seeming to be content right were it was at. Yes, she liked this Pokemon a lot. "Tite1 Medi!" She huffed and looked up at Novel, a demanding tone to her voice. She wanted to keep it, and she would get what she wanted. She was the diva after all, not him.
Sighing, Novel shook his head. "No, Nancy. We can't take in anymore pokemon." Which wasn't exactly true. Novel would take in lots of pokemon if he wanted, he just felt bad at taking them in and then giving them to someone else was all. Taking one in was.... would having to give it away better than leaving it out on the street? Looking at the Meowth, so sweet and yet skin and bones, he wasn't so sure. This pokemon... it was a wild pokemon. Maybe from a very domesticated set of parents, but it wouldn't be in this shape if it had a Trainer to look out for it. Novel's supply of Pokeballs was running a little thin, for what he had brought out with him... but one more ball wouldn't hurt. What was the point in having them if he didn't use them?
But first. "Nancy, you do understand that we can't keep it, right? We'll get it back up to health, and then find a nice Trainer who can spend proper time with it. I need to focus all my attention on you and the rest of my Gym Pokemon." She nodded slowly, but Novel wasn't so sure she did. "But, I'll let you personally help choose who gets it, okay?" Taking the Pokeball out of his pocket, he activated it and then set it in Nancy's hand. She looked down at the purring creature, so happy in her arms, and nodded again to resolve herself. "Meditite. Medi Medi Tite Medi." She spoke down to it. It was a promise that it would never be hungry again, and it would always have someone there to take care of it. Gently, she pressed the ball to its fur and watched as it was sucked inside. Quickly, she placed the ball on the ground to see if the Pokemon would accept that promise or not.

When the ball stopped shaking, Nancy picked it back up and placed it in Novel's outstretched hand. He quickly put it away, with the other new pokemon captured, and sighed. Well, he was three for three tonight. Three pokemon to find trainers for, three pokemon to learn how to feed and care for until further notice. At least two of them were the same species, he guessed. As far as he knew, Honedge were pretty popular, too. The trouble would be finding someone who actually deserved the Pokemon, and who he could trust wouldn't be cruel to the poor creatures. No one would abuse any pokemon that he had given them, if he could help it!
"Are you ready to hurry and get home, Nancy?" He looked down at the Meditite, who yawned wide in response and stretched some. She shook her head 'no', but Novel couldn't help but chuckle at how tired she looked. Just a little bit longer, and they could get to the hotel, and curl up and maybe, just maybe, forget that this night had been hell on them. Nancy might try to stay up or act tough, but he knew that in just a little while she would be curled up asleep.
It seemed that fate wasn't so kind. As soon as they stepped into the lobby of the place they were staying at, it looked like all hell had broken loose. Papers shredded, tables and chairs turned over, and various people all hiding behind the front desk. A few people made a startled noise when Novel came in, but no one emerged. Finally, someone stuck their head out and gave the vaguest of explanations. "Mister Gym Leader! Please! A Wild Pokemon is loose in here! Its terrorizing the guests and causing havoc! You have to stop it! Help up!" Sighing, Novel motioned for Nancy to get ready for a fight. He didn't know what this Pokemon was, so he hoped that them being tired they could both handle it.

this spell you cast on me- its like magic
There was a very long pause before anything made a move. Novel and Nancy moved cautiously deeper into the building, on the lookout. It seemed pretty quiet out here, but then a moment later there was a great crash and a scream. Nodding to Nancy, they two of them set out for where they had heard it quickly. They found themselves in the dining room, tables upturned and plates of food just left to sit. There was another scream, and a couple burst through the double doors that led to the kitchen. They rushed past Novel, not seeming to care that he was there at all. There was still a great clattering around in the kitchen, so they set out for the doors. Novel motioned to Nancy, for them to keep a low profile. He counted off on his fingers, three, two, one... Then they left forward, pushing through the doors.
Novel yelped when he found himself face to face with a Litwick. The Ghost/Fire type seemed just as stunned to see him there, giving him a chance to duck out of the way before it could attack him. It still managed to get the upper hand before the pair of them, though, letting out an ear splitting shriek. Sticky, red wax the color of blood dripped out of its mouth and eyes and it looked pained. It was mostly just unsettling to himself, but he muttered under his breath when Nancy made a noise of fright and shivered. A Curse attack. Being the Psychic leader, lots of people tended to come in with Ghost types, so he wasn't ignorant to their ways. This was bad. The attack would hurt Nancy and stack very quickly. He needed to end this fast before Nancy succumbed to the Curse.
"Nancy, quick! Poison Jab!" Novel tried to think quick. The only good thing about Curse was that it hurt the user too, so the Litwick would be weakened. He hoped that maybe the Poison Jab would, well, Poison the thing and would help drain away its strength to make it easier to manage. Nancy cried out and leaped up, flattening out her hand. It seemed to ooze purple at the tips, and she jammed it at the Litwick. While Nancy did that, Novel backed away and found himself a better place for himself, so he wouldn't risk getting hit by one of the attacks. The attack hit, which was good, but Nancy cried out, startled, and quickly jerked her hand back. The Poison she had placed on the Litwick burned away, not enough to inflict a poison. Seemed it had Flame Body. At least Nancy hadn't gotten burned.
Her attack through, Nancy landed on top of one of the shiny metal tabletops. She wavered for a moment, wincing, but straightened back up. Seemed the Curse had hurt her. Novel didn't have very long. The Litwick cried out, angry. It was scared, mostly, and confused. Something had upset the balance, somewhere, and it was lashing out. It didn't really want to hurt anyone, but it was just upset. Still, blazed to life with fire. Its entire body radiated heat, and then it started to shoot a hot blaze at point blank range at Nancy. Quick thinking, Nancy grabbed a massive metal bowl next to her and hunkered behind it. She started an Ice Punch attack, but instead of using it on the Pokemon, she used it on the bowl to keep it cooled down. By the time the fiery assault was over, the bowl had growl hot enough to scald her hands some and she was still sweating, but at least she hadn't been hurt. The same could not be said about the kitchen. Most things in here were fireproof, but that didn't stop the raging inferno that had been caused by the attack. This just added more stress to Novel and Nancy, who now not only had to defeat the pokemon before Nancy was hurt too much, but also before the fire spread and put anyone in danger.
"Thunderpunch, while you're close!" Stressed out, Novel called the attack out louder and harsher than he had intended. It didn't seem to bother Nancy, who quickly stood up and tossed the bowl aside. She made a fist and it crackled to life with yellow electricity. The Litwick was still so close, and seemed stunned that Nancy wasn't a pile of ashes now. It was an easy target, easy to finish off, since it had already been weak. The Litwick fell to the ground, fainted. Nancy winced again and started to breathe heavy. Quickly, Novel called her back into her Pokeball. The fire was hot and getting larger, so he needed to get out of here. But, he couldn't just leave the Litwick behind. Since it was unconscious, he could already see its waxy body starting to melt with the blaze, the creature not able to keep up its body. He quickly dug out one of his last Pokeballs from his pocket, tossing it at the Litwick as he moved closer to the door. About that time, the sprinklers came on and the fire alarm started, which he was glad for, but that didn't mean he would out of danger yet.
