Today was a special day for Ramona Albarn. It was only yesterday that she had finally succeeded in obtaining the secrets of the Tower of Insight in Iceburgh –she knew those “marbles” were too similar to be unrelated!- and after promising to return within the month, the trainer set out on another journey, having heard about a group of ancient ruins in the region. Now, as anyone who’s ever seen any action movie in the last couple of decades knows, ancient ruins = adventure. So it was no surprise that she was there with her bag of Mega Stones and Key Stone, ready to find some treasure.
Additionally she had brought some help in the forms of Groove and Treble, both of whom seemed very eager to help her out.
“Alright, you guys ready to do this?” Naturally the question was met by two determined nods. “Great, let’s get this adventure going!” the trainer cheered, striding towards the entrance of the ruins confidently.
Dig Dig Dig . . . What's this?! Congratulations, You've found Relic Statue! Oh god, it's the ugly deity from who-knew-where. (Post a Mod Summons to exchange this for •20)

As the woman and her Pokemon journeyed deeper into the bowels of the ruins, they slowly began to realize exactly how complex this ruin system was. It was like a human-sized Durant nest, with intersecting tunnels and rooms and the like. During her time in Sinnoh she had read about ancient leaders being buried in complex catacombs with traps to scare off potential graverobbers. Perhaps this was one of those? Though if this place was like that, there were very few traps, as she had activated none of them –granted, she had seen a few skeletons around, so perhaps she wasn’t the first to journey in here.
The tunnels were pitch black –save for the ball of bright light Treble had created at the trainer’s request- and the air was thick with stagnation. The ruins were so complex that they would have gotten lost multiple times were it not for Groove’s instincts. Though the Dragon/Ground type had evolved into a Garchomp only recently, remnants of its time as a Gabite remained in the form of a fantastic navigational system.
As they progressed deeper and deeper, the rooms began to get scarcer, and the rooms that she did come across got larger and more extravagant. Eventually she came across a room that seemed different than the rest; this room was large, yet sparse, like it wasn’t intended for permanent residence. Treble’s light instead showed that virtually no objects were present, but that wasn’t what caught her attention. No, what caught her attention were the walls.
All around the room, there were elaborate illustrations of Pokemon, most of which she recognized: Absol, Blaziken, Lucario, Slowbro, Charizard, Swampert, Garchomp, and Gallade, among others. These illustrations depicted odd stones surrounding each Pokemon, accompanied by ancient, indecipherable text all throughout. In fact, it appeared that the text was etched into every square inch of the room. It was an archeologist’s wet dream.
‘Zee would love this stuff,’ Ramona thought as she (along with both Treble and Groove) looked around in awe, finally focusing her eyes on what she assumed to be the front of the room: an altar sat on a raised platform. Behind it, the wall painting showed a figure, holding up an arm in triumph. From the figure light seemed to radiate, forcing the text to bend around it.
Entranced, the trainer found her legs carrying her ever closer to the altar, much to the confusion of her two Pokemon. She practically glided up the stairs to the altar, stopping once she reached the top.
The blue-haired woman looked down: sitting enticingly on the altar was a strange relic shaped as if it were wrapped around a cylinder. Like on the walls, unknown symbols were engraved upon it. Filled with a sudden sense of purpose, Ramona cautiously picked the relic up and rotated it. It was a rather large thing, and as she shifted it in her hands Ramona noticed an indent at one end of it. Coincidentally, it appeared that the pocket was about the size of a marble. Curiously, Ramona reached into her skirt pocket and removed a single marble-sized stone; it was her Key Stone, the rainbow-colored orb that allowed Mega Evolution.
She glanced between the two objects in her hands, then slowly brought the Key Stone to the relic and pressed it into the indent. There was some token resistance, but then the object almost seemed to welcome the joining and with a ‘click!’ the stone fixed itself snugly into the hole.
‘Almost as if it was meant to be…’
It was clear that this was supposed to be worn, but where? Her leg? No, somehow that didn’t sound right to her. But if not the legs, then…
Slowly the trainer slipped her right hand through the relic, bringing the metal object up past her wrist, past her elbow to her bicep. At first the relic seemed too large –as if it could come off at any moment- and disappointment washed over her, but she was shocked to find that the artifact was slowly shrinking to fit her arm, as if it had a life of its own. However, she didn’t panic, and instead watched with interest as the object continued to constrict around her arm until it was firmly and tightly wound around her bicep.
Ramona flexed curiously, shocked to find that the thing loosened to accommodate. “Just what is this thing made of?” she muttered, flexing some more to test the thing’s elasticity. A curious poke snapped the Hoennian from her trance. Shaking her head, Ramona turned to meet the worried eyes of her two Pokemon.

As they exited the room, Ramona couldn’t shake the curiosity nagging in the back of her mind; she had a Key Stone on her arm, and a Mega Stone for Groove in her pocket. She’d only performed Mega Evolution once, with Hunter, but not with any of the other Pokemon capable of it. Now would be a good time to test it out with Groove.
“Hang on, I wanna try something,” the trainer said, stopping suddenly. “Groove, I want to see what your Mega Evolution looks like,” she elaborated when the two gave her quizzical looks. The Garchomp blinked, clearly taken off guard. “I know you’ve been wondering what it’s like, too, right? Ever since Hunter’s done it, I can tell that it’s been eating at some of you to find out what it’s like, too.” In retrospect, she should have noticed it sooner, but she herself was too concerned with how awesome Hunter looked. A failing on her part to be sure.
“Anyway, do you remember what Hunter did?” Immediately the Garchomp nodded, letting some of its eagerness finally show. “Then let’s get started, yeah?” the blue-haired woman smiled, picking the Garchompite from her pocket and tossing it to the Jet Shark, who caught it in between its teeth.
“Remember, Groove, focus on our bond, all that we’ve been through together,” Ramona instructed, doing the same herself. In her mind’s eye she saw their bond –a single string within a massive web- and reached out to pluck it. At the same time, the Key Stone started to glow from its place on her arm. She plucked the string again, and the glow turned into a bright shine. Simultaneously, the Garchompite in Groove’s mouth began to do the same, both stones bathing the otherwise dark hallway in brilliant light that seemed to dwarf even Treble’s Sunny Day.
It wasn’t until the light died down that Ramona opened her eyes, and gasped at that she saw: Mega Garchomp looked far more intimidating than its normal form, with spikes jutting out its chest now. Its fins now resembled large curved knives, and its jaw had become more angular in a way that showcased its rows of sharp teeth even better.

It seemed that even Treble was impressed with the Garchomp’s Mega Evolution, and the Pokemon cheered merrily as Groove inspected its new form, awe showing on its face. Not that she could particularly blame the Jet Shark, as an equal amount of awe was probably showing on her face as well. Once again, she was reminded of the power of Mega Evolution, and the drastic effects it could have on a Pokemon’s appearance; the drastic change it had on Hunter’s appearance and attack power, how much stronger the Blaziken was in its Mega form compared to its normal form.
Suddenly the Mega Pokemon perked up, as if something unseen had been great enough to tear it enough from its transformation. It began sniffing about, as if detecting something valuable.
“What is it, Groove?” Ramona asked, eager. “You smell some treasure?” The Mega Garchomp nodded, taking a few steps towards a wall before slamming into it with its tail, much to the shock of Trainer and Togetic alike. Astonishingly, the wall crumbled inwards to reveal a hidden room. Not stopping there, the high-speed Shark entered the place, and Ramona followed. It appeared to be some sort of tomb, with a sarcophagus that she hoped wasn’t Cofagrigus, and a multitude of treasures of many sorts.
Before she could investigate too deeply, the trainer found herself faced with Groove once more, and the Garchomp leaned down with its teeth bared. A close examination revealed that, placed delicately between its jaws, was a marble.
“Whoa, nice find, Groove!” The young woman exclaimed, plucking it from Groove’s teeth and placing it into her pocket.
