After she had found Theseus' stone the other week, Amber decided to take some time off and head back out to the ruins once more. There was no telling what other type of Mega Stones were in the new ruins. Maybe some new ones were waiting to be discovered. Even Amber didn't know that there was a Salamence Mega Stone. She thought she all the Pokemon that had a Mega Stone, but she was clearly wrong. So, she made time and closed up the gym for a day to head back out to the ruins. This time she was accompanied by her Altaria. The Dragon type hovered above head, searching the top of the ruin structures for anything of interest. She walked below and underneath the ruins, passing by old markings and broken structures.
Cotton circled above head once more and landed near the entrance to a old structure. Amber heard the chirps from the Dragon type and turned around, finding Cotton standing just outside. The Dragon type shook her head and hummed rather sadly. She came up empty handed and didn't see a single thing up on top of the ruins. Amber smiled slightly and walked out, patting the Altaria's head. "It's alright. There's probably stuff in the ruins somewhere. But we've been at it for a while, lets take a break." Amber suggested. The Altaria nodded in agreement, flapping her wings and jumping over to the pond that was near. She lowered her head, taking a sip from the crystal clear water.
Amber followed behind, standing at the water's edge and looking down at the running water. There was a few things on her mind. One of them was how future battles would go. There was going to be plenty of more Fairy, Ice and even Mega Pokemon to deal with. She was restricted from using Megas in official battles too, which made things even tougher for her. But that just meant she and her Pokemon had to step up their game. Despite learning a lot from her battle with Elinda, Amber felt as though she was stuck again.
Their break was up and Amber called over her Altaria. The two of them proceeded to head deeper inside the ruins. Amber jumped down a few feet, hitting the ground and pulling out her flashlight. There was no telling what waited inside the ruins. She stuck close to her Altaria and they began their exploration.
Dig Dig Dig . . . What's this?! Congratulations, You've found an INTRIGUING STONE! Not a Mega Stone but it's still a beautiful stone. It can be sold for a high price to a collector.

My heart, my heart Kickstart my heart
Honestly, the one thing that probably sucked the most about being your own worst critic? You had information that others didn't, and more often than not you'd find yourself using that to justify why you should've done better.
It wasn't that Ryusuke hadn't done the best he could have with what he had during the Richissime incident in Kalos, but rather that he should've been far better prepared. Explicitly for Luxury? No, as Ryusuke didn't think nearly that highly of himself to simply assume he could have seen that coming, but the whole irony to it was that only a couple of months prior to that he'd been devoting most of his time to getting himself and his team back into shape. Most of that had admittedly been with the intent to help someone else who was dealing with their own problems on the off chance he could've helped, but the moment Ryusuke got back home to Lilycove he was well aware that he just sort of... stopped. He'd been in something of a personal funk at the time, sure, but that really wasn't much of an excuse, especially given the job he had picked up with the Safari Zone. If anything, from Ryusuke's current perspective it should've been all the more reason to keep up with the training regiment, rather than convincing himself that he didn't need it the moment Amber had given him those stones. One Pokemon did not a proper team make, and had Charizard been able to go Mega right from the very start Ryusuke had a feeling that nearly everything there could've been prevented before it spun out of control.
Hindsight being 20/20, though, that wasn't what had happened, and by the time everything was over Ryusuke had found himself down one arm and shipped off to a completely different region by his bosses. Not that it had all turned out badly. It wasn't exactly a promotion, but at the very least his actions there had bought him some recognition from management, and the fact that Ryusuke had assured them that he had no intentions of suing them - like he'd even have the money if he wanted to - had effectively translated into paid vacation time, even if unofficially. He was probably only going to be in Nue for a month or two at most unless his bosses decided that they had other ideas, but Ryusuke had plans for the time they'd given him already. There were things that needed changing, and he was done trying to do it his way - half measures never really worked out when it came to training Pokemon, and that needed to be corrected. While Ryusuke wasn't particularly interested in the rumors regarding the presence of Mega Stones in the region's more remote areas, it was still a gathering place for strong trainers and stronger still, wild Pokemon. A few weeks out in the wilderness would do him and his team some good - it was the way his dad did it, it was presumably the way his mother still does it, and it'd worked out pretty well for them so far.
At least that was the idea. Already a day or two in and the blonde was finding himself regretting the decision, likely due to the still missing prosthetic that hadn't been replaced yet, the normally filled right sleeve of Ryusuke's red coat hanging limply and empty at his side. The choice had been to either cut off a couple of weeks spent in the wilds waiting for the custom fitted replacement, courtesy of the benefits package his job gave him, or going out and getting fitted when he got back before formally returning to both Hoenn and work. It was making getting around the rough terrain far more difficult than Ryusuke had originally anticipated, but he was nothing if not stubborn, and having Grovyle there to help was honestly probably the only thing making this possible in the first place. Clearing the top of a small ridge, the pair would pause at the sight of something they'd been told of but hadn't expected to stumble across - one of the many old ruins that dotted the harsh and varied landscape of the region. Glancing down to Grovyle, not much needed to be said as the Grass type took the lead, hopping over the edge of the slope to slide down to the bottom, an action repeated by Ryusuke himself with only a slight stumble on landing.
Well, they'd gone out there for a challenge and looking for ways to test both themselves and the rest of the team, and this was better than nothing. Unaware of the other trainer ahead of them and already inside of the ruins, the human-Pokemon duo would begin to approach the entrance to the aging structure, shadows falling over them with Ryusuke reaching down with his one remaining hand to keep it on Charizard's Pokeball. He had no idea how dark it was likely going to get inside, and best to have a solution ready and waiting than trying to fumble around in the dark when he needed the time that a quick reaction afforded.
Dig Dig Dig . . . What's this?! Congratulations, You've found Key Stone! With Mega Knowledge and the correct Mega Stone, this can make your Pokemon Mega Evolve!

Amber felt as though she wasn't prepared now. The flashlight she brought barely lit the area around them, but was bright enough to light the way in front of them. Only by a few feet, but at least it was something. The Altaria next to her glanced around the area nervously. From the outside, the ruins didn't look that intimidating. The inside was a much different story. The deeper they went inside, the darker it became. At this point, she was almost regretting not bringing a Fire type. While she did have a Mareep on her, she doubted the small Pokemon could light up the ruins. It was almost like it was never ending inside. "Maybe we should head back." Amber suggested. Cotton had no arguments against this. The Altaria hummed nervously and turned around back towards the entrance. Amber followed, turning around and bringing the flashlight up to eye level. And that was a huge mistake. No sooner than she turned around, her flashlight hit an eyeball. The two of them stopped in their tracks and looked off to the side. The red eyeball flinched at the bright light, causing the others around it to wake up as well. Amber and Cotton stared at the awakening Claydol and at first it didn't seem so bad. One Claydol could easily be defeated. It wasn't until the other eyes around it began to open and glow that Amber's face paled. That was not good.
The others began to awaken and stir. It didn't take long for the other five Claydol to awake, followed by three Baltoy that were sleeping in front of them. And they didn't seem too happy at the fact Amber woke them up from their sleep. The Psychic types began advancing on the two, the Baltoy led the way and none of the Pokemon had any friendly look to them. One Pokemon was something she and Cotton could handle, maybe even two at once. Nine of them? No way. The area they were in was too small and cramped to send out anymore Pokemon, so there was naturally only one option.
"RUN." Cotton didn't need to be told twice. The Altaria followed after Amber as the flashlight dropped and the Psychic types began chasing after her, flooding into the cave's hallway in pursuit. She skidded around the corner, almost losing her footing as she dashed down towards the exit, or at least into a wider area. However, Amber came to an abrupt stop and stopped herself from crashing into another person. Her arms flailed out as she nearly toppled over, hovering in the air as she regained her balance. The Altaria came rushing in from behind, taking to the air as they entered the wider space.
"I'm sorry, just ru - Ryusuke?" Amber paused mid sentence to see who she had ran into, only to find that it was Ryusuke and his Grovyle. Under normal circumstances, she would have happily greeted him, but she was currently running from a horde of Claydol and Baltoy. Before she could even explain herself, the Psychic types turned the corner and circled the pair and their Pokemon, preventing any escape from either. The Claydol seemed pretty angry, ignoring the fact that Ryusuke had done nothing to them, they seemed to want to take him down with her. Amber turned her back to Ryusuke, staring at the three Claydol and the one Baltoy that were currently staring her down. "Greetings can wait, can you please help me get rid of these guys!?" Amber asked, gritting her teeth and picking two Pokeballs off her belt as Cotton readied herself for battle. This was some sort of trouble she'd get into with Danny, not something she'd cause. What a way to start off her day.

I'm looking to the sky to save me, looking for a sign of life Looking for something (to) help me burn out bright
Ryusuke had to admit, it wasn't very often that he saw places like this. Hoenn wasn't exactly well known for structures like this being scattered around, and neither was his mother's home region - the closest Ryusuke had ever come to anything like this was Unova and Sevii, but in the case of the former the origins of most of those buildings were very well known, and in Sevii's case he'd never visited the southern portion of Quest Island where the Tanobi Ruins were supposedly located. The only other places Ryusuke had ever heard of having ruins like this were Johto with Alph, and then Sinnoh with structures like this purportedly scattered all over the region. When Ryusuke had arrived in Nue he'd been aware of the possibility of finding one such ruin in the time he'd be out in the Debris, but he hadn't thought it would be this quickly.
Continuing to move further into the main hallway that seemed to serve as the ruins' entrance, most of Ryusuke's attention would be focused on the ceiling above, bathed in shadows and covered with vines while Grovyle wandered off to the closest wall to inspect the worn, nearly indecipherable carvings, eroded away by both time and the elements. Part of the blonde was almost tempted to try and check his Nav here and now to see what might be available on the ruins' origins - where they might've come from, why they might've been built, how long they've been around - but that thought was quickly killed by two things. The first of which was that Ryusuke seriously doubted he'd get service this far out into the wilderness while inside of a stone building like this, the second of which being the sound of an impossibly familiar voice echoing out from further within the darkened hallway ahead, causing both Grovyle and Ryusuke alike to pause, stop what they were doing and turn their heads to face the source of the sounds as movement suddenly made itself known. Flinching from the near collision, it was only dumb luck and shock that stopped Ryusuke from releasing Charizard on the spot as Amber Kazuki rounded the corner ahead and nearly crashed into the blonde.
"Am-wh-" Not the most comprehensive of greetings, but whatever words Ryusuke might have had to say were replaced as a look of horrific realization began to creep over his face as the reason Amber was running was rather quickly and succinctly explained by the horde of Claydol and Baltoy that rounded the same corner the Dragon Tamer had come from and began moving to circle them. Ryusuke didn't know what she did to piss them off, but truth be told it didn't particularly matter - regardless of what she'd done he was apparently caught in the crossfire now, and Amber's words were largely lost on him as Ryusuke mentally brought up what he knew of the Pokemon. Thankfully Hoenn natives, and ones he was by extension familiar with - Ground and Psychic typing, and while not particularly hard hitting they could take a beating. That meant Dark, Bug, Grass and Water, three of which Ryusuke thankfully had and with an emphasis on physical and boosted special attacks.
Only a moment of hesitation following as Ryusuke mentally fumbled with his Pokeball placement on his belt, Grovyle would take the opening move. Having been off to the edge of the hall with the wild Pokemon focused on the humans instead, the first Claydol that had been leading the charge would go down almost immediately and without warning as the Grass type blitzed the Ground Pokemon with Leaf Blade, the green glow tracing the Wood Gecko's path and graceful leap to where Leaf Blade connected at the point where the Claydol's body and head met for a critical hit. Passing his opponent and landing within the circle at the same moment his opponent hit the ground unconscious, the Grass type wouldn't pause for even a moment as he launched off to the side to strike another in the eye with Quick Attack and latching on with Giga Drain, the ground where he had been a moment before going up in a psionic blast from Extrasensory.
Bought all the time Ryusuke needed to unleash his other Pokemon, water would soon begin to fall from the ceiling as if a pipe had burst as Tentacruel materialized with Rain Dance, blasting another Claydol back with Hydro Pump and enough force behind the boosted move to physically slam the Psychic type against the far wall under the torrent of water, likewise unconscious. Not to be outdone, Grovyle's assault on the second Claydol would be joined almost immediately by Frubbles as the Frogadier blasted the Ground type with Water Pulse from a distance, Grovyle riding his unconscious opponent's head down to the ground.
"Razor Leaf!" Ryusuke called out, the last Pokemon being the newest addition to the team and not quite used to the idea of battling without commands - not for lack of punch, however, as two of the Baltoy went down to a sustained barrage of leaves launched from the Turtwig's head. All within a few moments, and hopefully enough of an opening for Amber to stop and set a few of her own Pokemon on the remaining fighters before they could strike at Ryusuke's team.

3 Claydol unconscious, 1 Baltoy knocked out
The battle erupted on Ryusuke's side. The three Claydol that were facing her turned towards the side, moving over to aid the rest of their pack. But before the one could lead the rest, an Ice Beam fired off and hit the first Claydol directly on one of its eyes. Stunned for a moment, the Claydol faltered in the air, which caused the other three Pokemon to pile up in confusion.
In their confusion, Amber took the chance to release the rest of her Pokemon out to keep the four Pokemon busy while Ryusuke dealt with the rest. "Cotton, Kelli, take down the Claydol! Mari, keep the Baltoy busy and back them up!" She called out. Without hesitation, another Ice Beam slammed into the first Claydol. The Psychic type hit the ground, causing the other two evolved Pokemon to turn their attention to the Altaria and Seadra. On the other hand, the Baltoy moved to regroup with its two older members, but was stopped by the Mareep.
Another Ice Beam and Hydro Pump combination took down the other Claydol easily. It fell to the ground beside its other fallen member, but while Cotton and Kelli were distracted, the other Claydol saw this as his chance. The Pokemon's eyes glowed bright before a Psybeam was fired off. Before the Psybeam had made contact with the Seadra, a Light Screen popped up and softened the blow. Kelli was knocked back a few inches, the Light Screen's faint outline hovered in front of both the Dragon and the Water type.
However, with Mari's attention on playing back up, the Baltoy would strike. The ceiling above would rumble and four large rocks would crash down on the Mareep, trapping her inside and making her an easy target. But Mari wouldn't go quietly. A quick Signal Beam blasted through the cracks, hitting the Baltoy dead on and causing it to back up. With the Baltoy dazed, Cotton saw this as her chance. She left the last Claydol for Kelli to take care off and swooped over the Rock Tomb, grabbing Mari and picking her out before dropping her down on the ground as gently as she could.
Before the Baltoy would recover, another Signal Beam hit its side and knocked it aside into the other Pokemon. It seemed to struggle for a moment before going limp, groaning slightly as it slumped against the other two Claydol. Meanwhile, Kelli was having no issues. Another Hydro Pump was blasted right at the Claydol's face. The water only angered the Pokemon more. The ceiling above rumbled again and the rocks crashed down. But a quick Dragon Dance boosted Kelli just in time to avoid the rock and finsih off the last remaining Claydol.
The four Psychic types were somewhat neatly piled up against each other and Amber's Pokemon regrouped. She sighed heavily and rubbed her temple. So, there were Pokemon inside the ruins. That was good to know. And while Amber didn't mind taking the opportunity to train her Pokemon, a horde of nine Pokemon was a bit over doing it. She also dragged Ryusuke into the mess, but that was a pure coincident. She turned her head, looking over at the other half of the pack. Ryusuke's Pokemon had taken down each of the Pokemon with ease, and there was one that she didn't recognize from before. The Turtwig was new, then again, Amber hadn't seen Ryusuke for a while. But she found that as a good sign.
With the danger gone, Amber straightened herself up and returned the Seadra and Mareep to their Pokeballs before walking up to Ryusuke. "Thanks for the help. Really sorry that you got dragged into this, but it looks like you took care of them." Amber said, her eyes glancing over at the limp Pokemon, making sure that none of them were just playing dead. When she heard herself apologize, she couldn't help but feel like Danny right now. That was exactly something he'd say. Maybe his luck was rubbing off on her. Cotton landed on the ground beside her, pulling in her wings and standing next to Amber. She chirped happily in greeting towards Ryusuke's Pokemon.
"So, what brings you out here? Did you finally decide to drop your day job and go back to being a Trainer?" She asked, a slightly teasing tone in her voice. The last time the two had met, Ryusuke was working at the Safari Zone. That was also when she had sold him the Charizardite Y and the Key Stone. Amber was curious whether or not he had used the stones since. She honestly hoped he did. A job at the Safari Zone seemed so boring and unexciting, and he now had a powerful Charizard. Not to mention Ryusuke now had the opportunity to use other Mega Evolutions too. If he didn't make use of the knowledge, then Amber would probably be more disappointed than anything.

I'm looking to the sky to save me, looking for a sign of life Looking for something (to) help me burn out bright
Probably something that Ryusuke should have more than expected given Amber's Gym Leader status and the woman's League exploits, but Ryusuke still found himself somewhat surprised on turning to look back at the remaining Ground types only to find them already unconscious - and more than that, put down with what would've been conventionally viewed as only about half the firepower Ryusuke himself had used, and an Electric type among them, too. Well, at the very least that made this trip productive already in that it gave Ryusuke a concrete standard to aim for by the end of this little trip. Unrealistic? Oh, yes, by a long shot, but the only way people or Pokemon ever got any better, at least from Ryusuke's personal experience, was by pushing your limits to see how far you could make them go. With the fight effectively over following each of their respective opponents down, though, Ryusuke would take that opportunity to slow begin returning his Pokemon to their Pokeballs, one by one, as Amber began to speak again.
"It's fine, no way you knew I was here. Besides, kind of factored into why I came out here anyways." Ryusuke replied, Turtwig back in his ball and the orb returned to Ryusuke's belt before being followed by Tentacruel and later but reluctantly, Frubbles. Not nearly enough to get the Grass type to learn much as far as new moves went, but even as the last Pokeball returned to Ryusuke's belt the blonde was starting to wonder when the Water type was going to evolve. Richissime had been a mess, but at least he'd been able to finally dig up some solid information on the Pokemon's species and evolutionary line. No item required, just experience, and supposedly the next stage was a Water/Dark hybrid. Exactly how long that would take, though, was the question - supposedly it leaned towards the "average" amount needed by most, but after the sheer number of Pokemon Frubbles had battled they had to be getting close. On that note...
"Yes... and no. Kind o- it's a bit complicated. I've still got my job, but the best way I can explain it is I got put on leave." Ryusuke replied. In a way that was exactly it, though - his job almost required him to be a trainer, but to be perfectly honest the blonde wasn't all that earnest to go back over the events in Kalos again. More to the point, on actually stopping to think about it... with his left side facing Amber it hadn't seemed to be noticed yet, or she simply hadn't pointed it out. Kind of the reason that Ryusuke typically wore gloves to begin with as a fair number of people got squeamish or uncomfortable in general on seeing it, and he wasn't entirely sure if Amber had noticed before in their last couple of meetings - far as he could remember they'd never shaken hands or anything of the like, and the last thing he really wanted to do was startle Amber with something along those lines.
"Honestly, just kind of tired of getting my ass kicked. I had a month of free time handed to me and not much else to d-" Ryusuke started, pausing on seeing movement out of the corner of his eye and turning his head to look only to see that it was Grovyle standing back up. A lot slower than usual, although as Ryusuke gave the Pokemon a questioning look the Wood Gecko would just glance back before raising an arm to wave Ryusuke's concern away, an small object clutched in one hand as he hopped down off of the fallen Claydol to begin walking back towards the two humans and the Altaria. A fairly typical reaction for the Pokemon, sure, but that didn't stop something about the Pokemon's movements nagging at the back of Ryusuke's mind. Something familiar about them that he couldn't quite pin, but not in a way they should have been.

Put on leave? The curious side of Amber perked up. She wondered what he had done to get put on leave, or if it was the Zone deciding to lay off some of their workers for a while. But no matter what the case, she was pretty glad Ryusuke now had time to focus on his team. Grovyle was a strong Pokemon on his own, without much training from Ryusuke himself it seemed. If he trained the rest of his team, then she could only imagine what he could accomplish.
When Ryusuke cut off his sentence, she stared at him curiously before Amber caught where he was looking. She turned her head behind her at the pile of Claydol to find Grovyle standing on top of them, searching for something beneath them. Grovyle must have sensed Ryusuke's look, as he waved his Trainer's concern off. However, when he returned to Ryusuke, he seemed to keep the item clutched in his palm. Cotton was curious as well. The fluffy dragon tilted her head and chirped at Grovyle with blinking eyes. Whatever Grovyle had found, it seemed as though he didn't want to share.
"Oh? Did you get pulled into some other battles since the last time we met?" Amber asked, returning to the subject. She turned to face Ryusuke and crossed her arms, looking at both him and Grovyle as she spoke. "Well if you need a sparring partner, I'm sure some of my Pokemon wouldn't mind." Even though she had never actually 'sparred' with someone else and their Pokemon, she was more than willing to try. Honestly, she didn't have that many friends who were Trainers at all. Or friends for that matter. She bounced from town to town and didn't really run into Trainers more than once. It was rather rare that she did. It was more or less the reason Amber considered Ryusuke a friend. Their paths had crossed more than twice now, and aside from Fang's grudge (which was now fading), both she, Ryusuke and their Pokemon had gotten along fairly well.
While she was studying Ryusuke and Grovyle, she noticed something. Ryusuke was missing an arm. Outwardly, Amber was hoping she wasn't staring. Interally, she was rather surprised and... stunned? There was a bit of confusion in there as well. First of all, Amber was fairly certain he had two arms the last time they met. And the times before that as well. And while she didn't know much about the human body and its healing process, the last time they met wasn't that long ago. If he did somehow got his arm cut off, should he really be walking around in the ruins?
There was a awkward pause and the air was filled with silence. It wasn't until Cotton nudged Amber that she was snapped out of her thoughts. While she was curious how... that had happened, Amber felt as though asking would be rude. If Ryusuke brought the subject up, then she'd probably ask then. But for the meantime, she kept her curiosity down and cleared her throat. The silence was still awkward, and hopefully Ryusuke wouldn't care.
"So uh, find any other Mega Stones since we last met?" Amber asked, hoping to return to the normal conversation and topic. The awkward pause wasn't that long, so hopefully she could recover from it easily.
Dig Dig Dig . . . What's this?! Congratulations, You've found Intriguing Stone!! Not a Mega Stone but it's still a beautiful stone. It can be sold for a high price to a collector.

Other battles? Yeah, that'd be a word for it, assuming the hostage scenario counter for multiple. Not that Ryusuke particularly wanted to elaborate, but thankfully Grovyle would provide a bit of welcome distraction as the Grass type finally walked up beside Ryusuke only to slip whatever he had picked up before into the blonde's right pocket. More specifically, the one that no longer had an arm to reach into it, and Ryusuke almost immediately picked up on the fact that was a deliberate action on the Wood Gecko's part - either something the Grass type wanted to keep for himself and didn't have anywhere to put in the meantime, or something he wanted to Ryusuke to see later when time was available to do so. With any luck it wasn't going to be something Ryusuke was going to regret letting remain there, but at the very least he trusted Grovyle with that much. The Grass type may have been a pain in the ass much of the time, but at the very least he tended to operate under the guise of common sense more often than not, even if his reasoning was often left a complete enigma - something that the Pokemon only encouraged as he returned the Altaria's chirp with a glance and brief verbal acknowledgement.
"Sparrin-?" Ryusuke started, only to find himself cut off yet again - rather than by movement or something else speaking, however, the realization that Amber had finally noticed the missing limb, and while the Gym Leader wasn't exactly drawing attention to it, she wasn't exactly being subtle either. Not exactly staring, but the sudden silence that followed pretty much just cemented the awkwardness as Ryusuke didn't say or do anything while she was lost in her thoughts, simply waiting for Amber to either comment on it or move on to another topic before her Altaria would break the silence in nudging its trainer. Thankfully moving on to another topic - while Ryusuke had no problems with talking about his "condition", the events leading up to this particular issue was something he'd rather not have brought up.
"Find any? No. Someone ended up mailing one before I left Kalos, but no idea which Pokemon it's for. To be perfectly honest, only reason I came out here was to train, not to look for Stones. From what I heard the strongest Pokemon and trainers outside of the regional Victory Roads gathered out here, so figured it'd be the best way to spend the month I got." Ryusuke replied, mind automatically spitting out his reasoning while it continued to ponder on Amber's previous offer of assistance. To be perfectly honest, Ryusuke knew full well that he wasn't anywhere near Amber's level of ability, nor would he likely ever be short of doing what she and his own mother had and devoting himself completely to the trainer lifestyle. Not something he was particularly interested in doing, at least at the moment, but when he stopped to think about his reasoning for coming out to the Debris in the first place... Amber's offer to help out was more or less what he'd gone there to find, if admittedly not exactly what Ryusuke had been expecting. Yeah, he'd probably continually end up getting his ass handed to him in the process, but you learned more from failure than you did from success, and Pokemon tended to improve and evolve much faster anyways when pitted against opponents of equal or greater strength from the start. The previous Claydol, frankly, had barely even been a challenge, and those had been fully evolved Pokemon - if those were the average for the ruins, Ryusuke had a feeling he was going to be there for a long, long time if he decided to pass up the free assistance.
As Ryusuke continued to mull over his decisions, however, Grovyle would simply continue to stand in place, looking both Amber and her Altaria over for lack of anything better to do while the two humans were talking. At least, until something moved in the shadows again from back the way the Dragon Tamer had originally came from - bored look vanishing from the Wood Gecko's face to be replaced by one of vague but cautious curiosity, the Grass type would lean to the side to get a better look of the hall beyond the Altaria before the first Golurk rounded the corner, the massive automaton far larger than any of the previous Ground types from before and the shifting shadows beyond it a sign of far more to come.

Three Golurk and one Golett unconscious Three Golurk and one Golett remaining
"You got mailed a Mega Stone? I'd like to have friends like yours." Amber said, chuckling a bit. "I haven't really ran into Trainers or Pokemon here, but then again, I've only been here like three times before. But considering the Claydol from earlier, I don't doubt there's powerful Pokemon deeper inside the ruins." She hadn't really heard that more of the stronger Trainers gathered here. Her guess was it was because of the Mega Stones buried inside the ground or inside the ruins, or maybe it was just the mystery surrounding the ruins as well. Whatever it was, Amber had yet to run into one. The Claydol were the first Pokemon she had ran into as well. But she turned her attention back to the details of the Mega Stone.
"If you have the stone on you, I could see if it's one I know of or..." She trailed, noting Grovyle's bored expression suddenly changed and he looked off to the side. The Dragon type was confused, as was her Trainer. Cotton turned her head around, seeing nothing in the shadows for a moment. However, it didn't take long for the Golurk to show itself.
The Altaria quickly turned herself around and protectively stood in front of Amber and Ryusuke. The rain was still pouring from the previous fights, soaking both Trainer and Pokemon alike. It wasn't until the rest of the Golurk's friends appeared that Cotton was suddenly feeling extremely unconfident. Now Amber was on alert. She turned around on her heels, only to come face to face with six Golurk and two Golett. For whatever reason, the Pokemon seemed rather angry. Just like the Claydol and Baltoy had done, the Ghost and Ground hybrids circled both her and Ryusuke and didn't seem to be letting them go anytime soon. However, instead of reacting with panic this time, Amber closed her eyes in frustration and formed a fist. She now had a clear head and wasn't caught off guard by a horde of Pokemon, which made everything just a little bit easier. Only a little bit though. "I swear, if Danny's luck rubs off on me anymore..." She muttered under her breath. It probably wasn't because of Danny's luck, but it made her feel better to have someone to blame it on.
Her eyes opened and she picked three Pokeballs off her belt. The consecutive flashes of light revealed the Seadra and the Mareep again, but this time Emerald joined the fight. The Serperior hit the ground and raised her head to face her opponents. Right as she was released, Emerald would waste no time and raise a Safeguard around her allies and Ryusuke's Pokemon. The barrier fainted but there was a faint outline of the Safeguard remaining.
Three of the Golurk clasped their fists together. Closing their eyes, the Pokemon seemed to be focusing on their power. Which was something Amber needed to interrupt immediately. "Kelli, follow Cotton and Emerald's lead! Mari, support them and try to handle the Golett!" With their commands set, Amber's Pokemon fell into action.
Emerald's tail glowed with green before she sprang forward, jumping on the Golurk in the middle and slashing it down with a quick Leaf Blade. Following the Seperior's lead, an Ice Beam and a Hydro Pump would hit the Golurk to the right and take it out in an instant. The last standing Golurk had almost completed his Focus Punch, but some tingling had broke its focus. The Ghost opened its eyes, its neck creaked as it looked down at the Mareep and the fading Power Gem. Mari's eyes grew and she instantly regretted interrupting the Golurk.
A quick Aqua Tail took down the first Golurk. The Automaton Pokemon grew stiff and slowly fell over on its back with a heavy thud. Emerald stood on top of the Pokemon victorious and glanced over to the rest of the battle. The remaining Golurk had began advancing onto the Mareep, who was currently backed into a corner. However, a Hydro Pump blasted the large Pokemon away from the Mareep. Speeding in with a Dragon Dance, the Seadra huffed and stood protectively in front of the Electric type.
The Ghost recovered from the Hydro Pump and turned to face the two smaller Pokemon. Kelli huffed, snorting at the Ghost in annoyance as another Hydro Pump was blasted forward. As if that wasn't enough, Cotton came through the air with an Aerial Ace. However, before either move could connect, the Golurk disappeared into the shadows. Putting on the breaks, the Altaria came to an abrupt stop in the air and looked around in confusion. Emerald looked up and over at the sight after dealing with the small Golett. The Pokemon was no match for one Leaf Blade and fell easily. But where was the last Golurk they were dealing with?
Amber looked around in confusion. The pack had split between her and Ryusuke, was it trying to gang up on him now? Her answer came quickly as the Ghost reappeared in front of the Serperior and knocked her side. Emerald hit the cave wall hard, dropping to the cave floor and lifting her head in a daze. "Kelli! Take it down!" Amber called out. The Phantom Force was unexpected, but a Hydro Pump took the Pokemon off guard and caused the Automaton Pokemon to grow stiff. Within a few seconds, the Pokemon fell over on its back.
Hopefully Ryusuke had enough of a warning to bring out his Pokemon. She wasn't sure what it was about today, but the hordes were after her and she ended up dragging Ryusuke into them. But at least this time, Amber didn't do a single thing to anger these ones.

I'm looking to the sky to save me, looking for a sign of life Looking for something (to) help me burn out bright
Not that Ryusuke even knew who had sent the Mega Stone, but yet again he found himself outclassed by the other trainer as far as his knowledge of the things went. What came out of Amber's mouth next wasn't entirely promising, either, as it pretty much busted what Ryusuke had been planning to do out in the ruins to begin with. Sure, he'd found her, but from what the Dragon Tamer said that was the exception, not the norm - while Kazuki hadn't elaborated on how long each of her previous trips into the Debris had been, the fact that Ryusuke himself was the first human she'd run across didn't exactly bode well, nor did the fact that this was the first time she'd encountered wild Pokemon. Granted, that statement alone was one that greatly surprised Ryusuke - from what he knew of them many of the creatures tended to prefer more remote areas where people had trouble reaching them. This should've been an ideal place to look for some, a fact that would be made further evident as Grovyle's movement keyed all present to the first Golurk to round the corner, followed by several of his buddies. More Ground types as opposed to something else, thankfully, and this time, like Amber, Ryusuke was plenty prepared and ready, reaching for his belt even before the Ghost types had finished forming a circle around them the way the earlier Claydol had.
Even before the Golurk and Golett had finished encircling the pair of trainers Ryusuke's first Pokeball had hit the ground. Presented with a situation nearly identical to the first, the released Turtwig didn't even need verbal instructions the second time around as it sent another sustained barrage of green shrapnel out, striking down the Golett almost immediately and heavily damaging the Golurk behind it. The large Ground type stumbling from the hit, it was all the opening that Grovyle needed to race forward yet again with Quick Attack, gracefully arcing into the air just as before with a Leaf Blade aimed for the giant crack on the Ghost type's chest - more than enough to drop the Pokemon after the earlier Razor Leaf, and as Grovyle rebounded off of his opponent the Golurk would crash to the ground.
Two down, two to go, and while Ryusuke was aware of Amber's Pokemon in motion his own attention was on the remaining two Ghost types that had all but ignored her team in favor of setting up to attack his. Frogadier was certainly an option again, but this time Ryusuke found his hand passing over the Water type's ball in favor of another Pokemon, Murkrow released onto the field in Frubbles' place. Left with a few short seconds before the remaining Pokemon were able to position themselves to attack, however, the Dark type would simply flap off of the ground to begin the short approach to the two Pokemon as Ryusuke pulled off a third and final Pokeball to release Tentacruel once again. As the Flying type flew straight for one of the Ghosts, the second would shift its attention towards supposedly the bigger threat, leg lifting before kicking at the ground to send a large wave of mud splashing for Tentacruel. For the Poison type's part, however, it would simply tilt its body back before unleashing its answer to the attack, another Hydro Pump cutting loose that would blast both the Mud-Slap and its user back into one of the piles of unconscious Claydol from before, the Golurk likewise down for the count. With only one wild Pokemon left, Ryusuke's side of the fight would finally wrap to a close as the last remaining Golurk would step forward to punch Murkrow, the Dark type suddenly dropping below the intended blow to streak past the larger Pokemon's legs with Foul Play. Knocked off balance and still falling forward with the momentum put into the punch, the Ghost type would crash face first into the ground, knocked out cold by the bird's attack.
Letting out a breath that Ryusuke hadn't been aware he'd been holding, the trainer would glance over his shoulder if only to confirm that Amber's side of the fight was finished before taking stock of his own Pokemon. So far, so good - no major hits, and he'd need to remember that tactic with Murkrow. The Dark type never really got used often before Richissime, but she'd been all but invaluable during that fight, and even now Ryusuke still didn't know everything the Pokemon was capable of. Foul Play was a tricky move to use, but against physical attackers like Golurk, apparently very effective. With only another quick glance over his team to make sure no one was injured - Grovyle already making his way back to Ryusuke and Turtwig, Tentacruel simply standing in place and Murkrow landing to fluff her feathers and preen - the trainer would recall the Water type to glance back in Amber's direction again.
"'Danny'?" Ryusuke repeated, a hint of amusement present in his tone. Frankly speaking Ryusuke only knew of one, maybe two people outside his family - himself included - that had luck this bad, and to be perfectly honest it was a refreshing thought that, for once, it might not have been his presence jinxing things.
