"YAHOO! WE'VE GOT THIS, IZANAMI! PRAISE!" Shinju and Izanami cheered where they were at the sight of the downed Litwick, given the Pokemon just made it's first faint. The battlefield was an icky mess, and runoff started spewing into the sea; no problem for the Corphish, however. They've been infamous for flourishing in polluted water, and it would desaturate within three days. The red-shelled being bobbed and floated in the murky sea with zero consequences. Of course, Shinju wasn't even aware of this fact, and would only realize while reminiscing much later.
Suddenly, their celebration was cut short when the next Pokemon came out. It was a strange piece of metal with an eye. It seemed, most definitely, to be of the metal type. Did water prove ineffective against metal? She never bothered remembering the type tables other than the basics, honestly. Still, Xue Yi gave very quick, eloquent commands, and Shinju suddenly found herself responsible for a response. Not hesitating, she said the first thing on her mind. "HARDEN, SINK, COUNTERATTACK, BUBBLE!" No logic was given in these orders, but Izanami followed them loyally.
In the suddenness of Shinju's acts, Izanami used Harden a moment too late, and the top of her head got raked by the Beldum's Take Down. It hurt significantly, causing a heavy cringe and searing soreness; the nature of Harden did not allow her to retract or flinch, however. As the Corphish was already in the Harden, what would have been an absolute kill just barely left her with minimal vitality. One more hit would definitely incapacitate her.
Now completely submerged under the polluted water, Corphish looked up and armed her claws and mouth with the water-type attack. Due to her anatomy, her eyes saw through the blots on the water's surface that other Pokemon possibly wouldn't be able to see through. Once she caught sight of the Beldum, her Bubbles were fired from underwater, aiming to hit it's underside.
Shinju stared at the murky water, her herself not able to see what laid inside it. Previously, she saw how that physical move damaged Izanami severely. The shrine maiden prayed that her Pokemon did not fall unconscious upon the sea floor. Then, her eyes gleamed in thankfulness when a shotgun spray of Bubbles started firing from the black sea and into the metal Pokemon, the Corphish still refusing to surrender victory.

It was funny how the tables had turned. Now Xue found herself the victim, of the very same strategy she employed onto Shinju just moments ago! Armada scanned the area after knicking the enemy Corphish. Its lone red-eye tried to find the Corphish and just barely noticed the stir in the surface coming from the counterattack! The Pokemon leaned back and just got knicked by the spray of Bubbles. Armada began to scan in greater fever than before, until it heard Xue's voice call out.
"Easy Armada! No hasty movements. Come back and regroup." the trainer said.
The proud Pokemon didn't like the idea of disengaging against the enemy, but trusted its trainer's judgment a lot. Xue was already starting her re-assessment of the battlefield and the situation, not liking what she had to play with. Armada's Take Down definitely hit something, and just disappointing that it didn't cleanly hit. Now the question was how to approach the enemy? Corphish had no incentive to come out and likely was buying some time due to the lasting injuries from Beatrice. Should she assume that the Water type had one of the health draining status effects and go about preparing for future battles? She shook her head to dismiss that thought.
Murmuring to herself, Xue contemplated further options. "I won't engage Corphish in an underwater battle, as that will put Armada in a terrible disadvantage and take unnecessary damage."
Then it hit her! If she could not win against Corphish's better plots, then perhaps Miss Shinju would be a better target? Xue had a feeling the woman wasn't the most patient of people; first being tipped off by her hasty responses during the Beatrice fight. This caused Xue to smile once more. She would present a dilemna to force her opponent to commit to land operations!
"Armada, start excavating this area and build trenches. About two of you wide is good! Add in a few craters if you would too!" Xue peppily said, as she watched her Beldum get right to it.
Both of them knew better than to expose their backside to the sea. Armada would rotate every once in a while to be sure it was constantly alert of the ocean's movement during the excavation. It worked diligently in crafting trenches in front of Xue and walled them fairly high with the sand. Beldum may not be efficent attackers, but they were among the best diggers she knew!
"Is she... plowing the field?" Shinju wondered aloud, somewhat confused at what Xue Yi was doing. Was she creating elevation for herself? What use would that be? She suppose, if she were to use Inari or Hachimon, it might be troublesome; but both were cave-dwelling and farm-dwelling, so they were trained in fighting with ups and downs. Perhaps it was for Izanami, but Izanami was completely in control. Though, she was looking tired... Perhaps Shinju should return her? No, no. That'd be cowardly, if not dishonorable. Still... she didn't know how much longer Izanami would last.
As it turned out, not for long. The lack of adrenaline seemed to take a toll on the Corphish underwater, and her limbs begun to feel sore and feel the brunt of the pain. In doing nothing, Izanami begun to feel fatigued where she was. The lack of command from her trainer also made her stay dormant... which further added to her tiredness. She started nodding off in the water, and after a moment, fainted in her place. Her red body floated to the surface of the water, clearly asleep due to her body wanting to rest and heal.
Shinju, still thinking on what the heck Xue Yi was pulling, suddenly glanced at the emerged Izanami. Ah, she was checking on the situation... Wait. WAIT. She wasn't checking the situation! Indigo hair flew as she did an extremely energetic double-take, her face painted in shock. She FAINTED?! She fell asleep?! Good Landorus, she KNEW that keeping Izanami in battle was a bad idea! "WARGH! She... SHE FAINTED! Of not DOING anything!"
The woman stamped on the ground and clenched her fist. "So this is a Pokemon battle... spontaneous to the very end, huh? I suppose it won't allow for mediocrity. ...SHE FAINTED FROM NOTHING! Graghhhh..." Grudgingly, she pulled out a Pokeball and called back Izanami. Shinju mumbled and whined under her breath, sounding like a little child.
Alright, er... Inari, then. She didn't know if Hachimon could work at full power, what with those trenches and his wings. "Come forth, Inari!" The Mawile jumped from her perch, eager to fight. She walked up to the edge of the closest trench, waiting for her command.
Shinju did a stage whisper to her first Pokemon. "Hey, Inari. Get ready a Sucker Punch, okay? ...gonna have revenge for that 'fainting of nothing' silliness...." Mumble, grumble, mumble.

The mounds finally took the form that suited Xue's idea in her head; not a moment too soon! She saw the Corphish rise on up from the depths and cracked a smile. Inside, she was glad that Beatrice's battle against Corphish ended up in a draw. It wasn't often a fire type got to take down a disadvantaged match-up and Beatrice's spirit certainly made the difference here. Shinju's apparent confusion and outrage tipped off Xue's thoughts that her opponent wasn't tracking the wear and tear effect going on. That, and Shinju didn't looked like the type to take into account all the small details. Something Xue did!
Armada's pace was surprisingly not slowing down, as the trainer nearly had a sand castle wall big enough to mask the tiny steel-type.
"Return to me Armada; I've other plans for this fight." Xue called with her Pokeball in-tow.
As soon as the Beldum vanished in a red-light, the pink haired trainer motioned for the little one that was perched on her body to join the fray. Smaller than a typical Ralts, though she could trust no other Pokemon more because of simple longevity. Kaguya was her first, and filled with all sorts of surprises. Surprises that the little Ralts would show against Shinju's next choice, which was the spunky Mawile. A Pokemon who shared a typing similarity with Kaguya, but was likely a better defensive choice due to its primary type.
"Alrighty Kaguya, time to give Shinju-kyuun here a prime example of our bond!" Xue declared proud and loud, enough to snap her opponent to attention.
<Raa raal!/'I'm ready!'> Kaguya responded.
Her innate senses followed onto Mawile and sensed a being as scary as those big jaw-like ponytail! Kaguya was a bit frightened at what Mawile could possibly do with those jaws, though she tried to replicate it the best she could with...her voice? Through one of the visible walkways where Mawile could be seen, Kaguya hopped over and let out a series of growls that meant to intimidate her opponent. Xue sighed, and was impressed by her partner's vigor. She REALLY needed to sit down some time later to remind that the little Pokemon's 'growls' sounded like cute love calls. Kaguya WAS trying hard to intimidate, though probably was smothering Mawile with cuteness and adorable charms instead.
"Hehe Kagu-chin, you're gonna need to do more than that to take down Shinju's stance! How about a bit of flames to push Inari back?" Xue slyly asked.
Kaguya nodded and glowed a darkish purple hue. Spawning all about her were purple fireballs that look oddly like wandering spirits. What was more menacing was just how many the little Ralts summoned. First it was five, then ten, and then at least twenty five were all around the blue-haired empath. The Ralts did a double arm wave at Mawile, which signaled the Wisps to move in towards the target. Kaguya's wisps were slow, but compensated with their sheer volume.
