Zernebog let go of the last metal pin with a sigh. ”And that’s a wrap. No pun intended.”
Zernebog ran a gauntleted hand through his hair. This was easily the second-most productive dig he was on and he was only thirty minutes to an hour in. He didn’t expect to find two Key Stones of all things, let alone one mounted on one of the strangest things that he had ever unearthed in his life. And considering the kind of life he led and the world he was in, that was saying something big.
The question was: how big of a discovery was this? Was it a quirk of the previous user or was this some sort of special artifact that did things not unlike the cursed ones he’d had in his possession at one time or another.
Zernebog was eager to find out, but first he had a dig day to finish, and he had a lot of daylight left to burn. ”I can wait.” He muttered to himself.
And that he could. Hopefully, anyway. He was patient. He could do it.
Now if only he didn’t have to constantly repeat it to himself in order not to stop what everyone was doing and study the thing to death.

”A wooden crown… made out of popsicle sticks?”
Zernebog didn’t know how to feel as he started at the wooden crown in his hands. It was easily one of the most roughshod pieces of craftsmanship that he had ever seen, and he was someone who had seen a group of Shuckle try to make a castle. It was probably as nonsensical too, but he didn’t have enough clues to even try and guess if he was right.
For all he knew this could be some kid’s playtoy or an actual crown from what was the poorest kingdom ever. He would have to appraise it much closer to be sure.
”Okay, this has to be payment for those two marvelous finds.” Zernebog chuckled to himself as he walked out of the hole that he was to put the popsicle crown on the table inside his tent. ”Can’t win ‘em all, I guess. Maybe this crummy crown can tell me something else about this place’s past….”
Time to continue to get to work. It is like it is never over. Which for Zernebog, was never really over that it was a family profession of all things. Plus he actually loved his work almost as much as he loved battling, which was saying something.

Meanwhile, while Zernebog was making many important discoveries that would probably awe and baffle him for days, Atlas wasn’t having nearly as much luck as his trainer was. In fact, over an hour of digging and all he managed to find so far was was this rusty old bronze crown. He would be more excited if it had any of the nice shiny stuff that he and Achilles liked to hoard, but this one was just plan rusty old bronze.
Boring.
Atlas groaned and started to make a pit here. Since he was here, he might as well start making his pile of useless junk that those nerdy friends of his trainer would probably get their hands on once he contacted them about it. He didn’t even know why he couldn’t just hoard them himself or hide them away or even throw them away to an unknown place. Something about building rapport and wet dreams, whatever the heck those meant.
Humans were weird creatures. Well, at least they weren’t crazy like Gengar. He can’t handle that grab-bag of crazy even with his typing and his worldly experience. Some things were too much for even an Excadrill like him, and that grab-bag of crazy was one of them.

That was a question that would normally not cross Zernebog’s mind, let alone escape from his lips. However, he couldn’t help but do both upon looking at this… this… gaudy thing that he had come across in his dig. Indeed, gaudy was the best word to describe it even with all of the dirt –and was that soot?- covering large patches of the thing.
Yes. It irritated his sensibilities to admit it, but he honestly didn’t know what this ridiculously gaudy thing was. It had the build and structure of a ring of a rich gangster in Unova, but it was easily large enough to fit his hand and wrist through with enough space left to add his other hand in. He was tempted to assume that the owner was just a large man –or an unusually-large woman- with weird or no taste in jewelry or this was actually some sort of ritualistic object. However, he was an archaeologist.He dealt with facts, not assumptions. He usually left the latter to psychologists and philosophers because theorizing was their job.
”…Well. At least John would be ecstatic to study something like this once I let him know about it.” Zernebog finally muttered to himself after a few moments, scratching the back of his head with a sigh. ”Might as well put it in the pile with the crowns.”

Crack! Crack! CRACK! Clink…!
Atlas was starting to think that all that he would find this morning were duds, but he was quickly proven wrong when he busted through some rather thick bedrock that looked to be misplaced or pushed upwards by a natural earthquake or tectonic shift and discovered the shiny, unmistakable form of a Mega Stone.
He liked listening and learning about all sorts of pretty stones –though not as much as that greedy Achilles- so he listened enough to Zernebog’s lectures and rants to know that what he was holding now was a bonafide Lucarionite. He was pretty sure that his trainer already had one of these but anything was better than nothing, right? Zernebog was a smart human, so he was bound to find a way to use the extras for his own profit.
With that in mind, Atlas nodded to himself and took the stone in his mouth. Then he began digging his way back to the surface in a path that only those who were born and bred in the earth could navigate….
