where stars are drowning
"I've known Manny since he was a little piggy, and I a little girl," Unnur answered, nodding softly, her voice not loud enough to attract unwanted attention, yet not soft enough to go by completely unnoticed by the person she was conversing with. Littler, she surely must have meant, but that was a detail that could and should be easily overlooked. There was a very subtle undertone of sweetness and perhaps even pride in her voice as she talked about the now Mamoswine, one that was definitely lacking in her speech until then.
But it didn't stay for long, for their conversation had to progress, as any other good conversations did, and the next topic in line was one that left Unnur quite surprised, if not open-mouthed.
"You're a gym leader?"
There really weren't many words to describe Unnur's surprise at this revelation. She'd never met any gym leaders, not even the local one, but ever since she was little—littler—and the Pokémon League institutionalised a gym circuit in the region she'd known that they were a pretty big deal. Everyone in town made sure to leave that clear whenever she overheard their conversations as she ran errands for her mama or just took a walk around to play with her Pokémon companions. Meeting a gym leader in the flesh and in the most unlikely circumstances was, of course, bound to leave quite the impression on her.
She recovered from her astonishment in time to catch, starry-eyed, the rest of the Aggron trainer's short speech on the duties of a gym leader. "I never knew of our gym leader leaving to meet others," she commented, honestly intrigued. "Are you like her boss, then? Because you get to visit her to boss her around. So your boss would be, like, the boss of her boss! And does that boss have another boss?" Unnur was starting to giggle at the thought. It was such a wonderful, eye-widening thought. "But," she suddenly interjected, "Why wouldn't you want to challenge other gym leaders? You should show them who's boss!"
