Might was a much better response than what she had initially feared. Hemlock was still unsure of how to deal with this forest full of creatures that would attack her and other humans without a hint of aggression. This wasn't -all- of the Pokemon, of course; the Cyndaquil and Totodile proved that to be false. Seemed like the watering hole in general was a more... accepting place, although this was likely to be attributed to laziness and the general atmosphere of the place - just a place for Pokemon to come over, relax, grab a drink. Hemlock could appreciate it.
Rain was friendly enough, too. She had a kind face, and that was something Hemlock didn't see enough of - she was used to the emotions ranging between neutral to anger. Hemlock managed to retain little quirks of her smile as she turned her attention to her own Pokemon that was out and about. Strings was still playing shadow tag with the Totodile, who seemed... well, pretty unawares of the Shuppet's general existence, or uncaring, either or. Hemlock pulled her fingers together and ever so slightly flinched up as a splashing of cold water hit her ankles - just Deino entering the water, but still enough to startle her.
And then the attacks started, leading Hemlock to take a step or two back away from the scene as the Deino was blasted back - this was Rain's territory, not hers. Hemlock couldn't fight, and retaliation wasn't her forte. The Froakie dipped away, however, and Rain got a hold of her dragon, who was preparing to fire off some kind of attack - Hemlock was sure it was a Dark-type attack, but she couldn't but too sure. Luckily, conflict was avoided, and that was what mattered.
At least, she thought so - unawares of the Froakie's resurfacing, she had just been looking to her Shuppet when the sudden rush of movement from Rain caught her attention, a moment too late. The Water Pulse attack shot out and sniped her Shuppet down, knocking her ghost into the water, prompting Hemlock to start forward. "Strings!" She cried out, but her eyes caught the movement underwater as the Totodile woke up and got the hell out - the Totodile's shadow didn't vanish, instead moving over the water to the chuckling Froakie.
Before the frog knew it, the shadow became a tackling blow, and Strings the Shuppet used its pointy head to smash into the frog's stomach, briefly knocking it out of the water. Before the ghost could follow up, however, the Froakie opened its mouth and let out a burst of smoke, swallowing itself into the cloud of Smokescreen. The Shuppet rushed in to continue the attack but fell through the other side, empty handed.
The clever water-type fell into the comfort of the water once more, the splash alerting the Shuppet of the possibility of location. Hemlock herself chimed in now with a "Beneath you!" - not quite panicked, but not quite calm. Strings was able to put forth the willowy shield of Phantom Force, fading into it as it rushed forth to knock into the Froakie again.
Now pushed onto the shore, further down from Rain and Hemlock, the Froakie pulled up into a battle ready stance, then seemed to shift to the left, leaving behind an after image - inconviniently, this was what Shuppet had rushed forward to attack, moving right into the ghostly copy as the Froakie lashed out with another Water Pulse.
Too many close range direct hits were wearing down on the Shuppet, leaving Hemlock at a loss for a moment - Rain's Pokemon was down and out and now Hemlock's Pokemon were getting constantly wailed on, especially evident in the waver in Shuppet's float upwards. A small part of Hemlock surfaced for a moment, evident from her despair and desperation as the corner of her eye twitched for a moment before she stepped right on by Rain moving closer to the scene of the fight.
"Strings, finish it off!" With no stutter for the moment, Hemlock pointed at the Froakie, knees bending ever so slightly as she stopped moving. Strings moved forward, dipping into a Shadow Sneak attack, leaving the Froakie to charge up a Water Pulse. This time, however, a much larger shadow popped up behind the starter Pokemon - a larger shadow with a twisted smile and two sinister claws that came up to slash down into its back.
The Shuppet was back and better than ever, having evolved into a Banette with a wide smile and an aggressive streak as it grabbed the Froakie and tossed it back into the water, slashing it with its clawed hand during the grip. Hemlock paused, hand out as the Banette swooped in to wrap arms around her middle, choosing to put her hand on its head as it gave her a paranormal snuggle before phasing through her, moving over to Rain to try to mimic the action.
Who didn't want a hug from that kind of smiling Pokemon?
